Re: Favorite minor characters?
Hmmm...
I liked Harvey Keitel, Eric Stolz, and Chris Walken in 'Pulp Fiction'. All were excellent small roles.
How about the train security man 'Woodcock' in 'Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid'?
Edward Noton's uncredited role as the King of Jerusalem in 'Kingdom of Heaven Director's Cut'.
Brando in 'Superman', he made a huge impact on the film. Also Glenn Ford in that. Without those two small roles being done so well by great actors it would not have been the same movie.
Val Kilmer in 'True Romance'.
Ben Johnson in 'Shane'.
Hell there's too many to list.

Re: Favorite minor characters?
Every time I think of someone for this thread, I realize they're supporting characters, but not minor characters. Everyone I like in THE WILD BUNCH who's not a member of the title band is still a major character no matter how small their part. I'm thinking particularly of the Mexican officer played by Alfonso Arau ("That's very smart, you damn gringos."). Important character, not a minor one.
So I thought of Peckinpah's THE GETAWAY and the parts played by Dub Taylor (operator of the "safe" hotel in El Paso) and Slim Pickens (garbage collector who helps the getaway couple at the end). Are those minor characters or major characters with only a few scenes?

I just thought of another one I like: Mose Harper in The Searchers.

He certainly was. I "spoiled" the movie for my date when we first saw it in the theater, because I recognized his voice on the phone. I said, "Hey, that's Kevin Spacey!" Still, it really isn't a spoiler other than if you know it's him, it eliminates anyone else you've seen, which is where most crime thrillers usually go (the killer being someone in the main cast the whole time).

Elias Koteas in Some Kind of Wonderful. But really any Elias Koteas character.

It's not even like Kevin Spacey was Kevin Spacey when that movie came out. What a fucking ego.
