Recommend a random movie thread
I notice that this forum tends to skew towards new releases. I mean that's fine but I think we tend to miss out on all kinds of great movies when we limit ourselves to just what's new or coming out soon. So, do you have a movie you'd like to recommend but don't want to open up a new thread about? Recommend it here and tell us why you dig it. The only rule I'd like to implement is that the movie be older than say five years or so. If you wanna say fuck you Jules, I have a movie that I really wanna recommend that's less than five years old, whatever. Post about it. Just tell us why.

Gambit(1966)
There's a remake coming out but fuck that noise. This movie stars Michael Caine and Shirley Maclaine and it is a ton of fun. If you like caper movies, you'll like this one. Shirley Maclaine is damn good in it. There's a few twists and turns but it's a type of movie that just oozes fun. Go see it.

The Driver(1978)
This one stars Ryan O' Neal and he's pretty bad ass in it. Kind of the same premise as Drive wherein he plays a getaway driver for hire. Some great car chases and Bruce Dern plays a cocky as hell cop determined to beat the Driver at his own game. Simplistic, slightly minimalistic, pretty awesome.

Killer Klowns From Outer Space.
It's a horror comedy that's just some great absurd fun. And really twisted use for cotton candy and curly straws.

WHITE OLEANDER - Great performances by Allison Lohman, Michelle Pfeiffer and Rene Zellweger. The story has its contrivances, but the characters make up for the episodic approach. Those who are tired of empty superhero movies, or CGI-created worldwide destruction will find this movie a cerebral pleasure.

Oscar. Hilarious little-known Stallone comedy from the 90's. Cracks me up every time I see it...definite guilty pleasure.

Another Val Kilmer flick that's very good but sadly overlooked is The Salton Sea.
Dr. Thornton Poole: That's an oxymoron.
Connie: Gee, you shouldn't oughta said that, Doc.
Snaps: Yeah, leave Connie alone. He does the best he can.

The Masque of the Red Death (1964) -- highly stylized, deeply disturbing and eminently entertaining gothic brilliance from both Roger Corman and Vincent Price. A superior horror film with callbacks to Bergman's "Seventh Seal", but a wholly striking and original film which revels in its macabre operatics. Imagine if David Lynch directed a Satanic version of a Michael Curtiz medieval crowdpleaser.

Somewhere in Time - A playwright (Christopher Reeve) travels back in time to 1912 to meet a woman (Jane Seymour) whose photograph he has fallen in love with. Based on Richard Matheson's novel "Bid Time Return" and co-starring Christopher Plummer. Wonderfully directed by Jeannot Schwarz (probably his best work) and one of those "three-hanky endings" that doesn't make you feel like you've been manipulated.
Shoot To Kill - An FBI agent (Sidney Pointier) and a mountain man (Tom Berenger) team up to rescue the mountain man's girlfriend (Kirstie Alley) from a ruthless diamond thief/killer in the Pacific Northwest. Great dialogue/chemistry between the lead actors.

Shoot to Kill was one of those movies I watched 1000 times when I was a kid because it was on HBO/Cinemax almost daily. Kirstie Alley actually did a decent job playing a hot outdoorsy chick. She was cute back in the day...
