Re: Defend a bad movie
I love lots of movies many people consider "bad". Here are a few that come to mind immediately:
Never Back Down (2008) - 22% RT - This movie got me into enjoying MMA and back into working out hard in the gym. As a huge fan of The Karate Kid, was great to see it in a more modern context in a city I am more familiar with, Orlando. I've rewatched this movie so many times. Halloween (Rob Zombie) (2007) - 24% RT - How a remake should be done in my eyes. Take an already well-established story/villain/etc. and insert additional context, character development, etc. while still paying homage to the main story of the original. Bad Boys 2 (2003) - 23% RT - I don't care if it's Michael Bay and there's more explosions than I could possibly count, this movie was a ton of fun and loved watching it when it was in theaters and again on DVD. Liked Jordi Malla as the villain (Johnny Tapia), too. |

1. Nice throwback to those exotic adventure movies from the 30s and 40s 2. Killer gorillas and laser guns 3. Future 3-time Oscar nominee Laura Linney is quite competent in the lead, which was also her first feature film lead role. Howard The Duck The basic plot is pretty good/creative Lea Thompson at her hottest Great effects work from ILM/Phil Tippett |

Corrected the truncated feel of the 2nd cut of Alexander 3. Third time was a charm Just wanted to use the 3 Reasons structure there...realize me thinking it is a good film is not the exercise called for in the OP. Bad Film: Road House 1. Pain don't hurt 2. falling stuffed polar bear 3. yeah...his throat...gone |

1. Last time I remember really being amazed by CGI in theaters. 2. Dizzy  3. The supporting cast is great, with David Thewlis, Pete Postlethwaite, Jason Isaacs, and Brian Thompson. |

Re: Defend a bad movie
Lovely Bones is a great expressionistic film, with very complex filmmaking and emotional acting.
War Horse is a Spielberg masterpiece full of true filmmaking magic. White Dog is one of the most beautiful and profound films I've seen (the last two are acclaimed but considered terrible by the internet at large) |

King Kong (Jackson version)
1. The interactions of the crew/guests on the boat was well done. 2. The action scenes on the island (and in particular with Kong) were exciting. 3. The production diaries were awesome, even if you think the movie sucked. |
Re: Defend a bad movie
Mystery Men
-Awesome plot -Funny actors -creatively went on a limb (even if it failed miserably) |
Re: Defend a bad movie
A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge
1. Retains the dark, low-budget gritty aesthetic of the original. 2. The homoerotic stuff is actually a pretty gutsy move, not just for the era but for a franchise pic. It also adds a surreal touch to the film that really helps the '"what's real, what's a dream" factor. 3. The "you've got the body, I've got the brain" scene. 4. "Help yourself, fucker!" 5. The dream sequences still had the randomness of dream and their 'wtf' moments (like the dog with the human face). The later films seem to abandon this for the most part in favor of 'high concept' dream sequences. |
