Kick-Ass 2 happening?
From Deadline:
EXCLUSIVE: Universal Pictures is in talks to make Kick-Ass 2, with Jeff Wadlow directing his script. I’m told the intention is to get the film in production by August. Discussions are just getting underway with such original castmembers as Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and they will have to be signed to new deals to reprise their roles. The raucous 2010 film was directed by Matthew Vaughn; it was made for $28 million and grossed $48.1 million domestic and $103 million worldwide. The original was released by Lionsgate but became a free ball controlled by Vaughn. He can’t direct the sequel because of his commitments to his X-Men: First Class follow-up, but he is backing it and is fully supportive of handing over the reins. Wadlow, who wrote and directed 2005′s Cry Wolf, wrote the Kick-Ass 2 script for Vaughn, and it has already come before Universal’s green-light committee. I expect a deal to be closed shortly. Wadlow is repped by WME. |
Re: Kick-Ass 2 happening?
I read the comic recently; it's pretty brutal, i'd be curious how closely they follow it.

Re: Kick-Ass 2 happening?
The comic sequel is vile garbage.

Re: Kick-Ass 2 happening?
Mark Millar is vile garbage.

Re: Kick-Ass 2 happening?
Vile garbage is Mark Millar?

Re: Kick-Ass 2 happening?
Mile Garbak is Vage Mirk.
Kick-Ass 2 (the comic) was god fucking awful, Kick-Ass (the movie) was overrated, undercooked tripe, and I'd rather drill holes in my own grundies than read another Millar comic. |

Re: Kick-Ass 2 happening?
Matthew Vaughn isn't returning to direct? That must mean that Matthew Vaughn and Jane Goldman are returning to write, right? No? Who's directing and writing this then? The guy who wrote and directed Cry Wolf? Um, okay...
WHO THE FUCK IS RUNNING UNIVERSAL? Seriously. I hope Battleship and Snow White and the Huntsman bomb and Comcast fires each and every cocksucking executive at that studio. |
Re: Kick-Ass 2 happening?
If Millar is the source behind that news item, it's definitely not happening any time soon.
|
Re: Kick-Ass 2 happening?
I liked the first. I'll wait for a trailer to judge this one.
|
Re: Kick-Ass 2 happening?
I loved the first one. A lot of fun in theaters. I'd gladly welcome a sequel if done right.

Re: Kick-Ass 2 happening?
Jeff Wadlow directing? Damn, he was a project mentor for my group on a short film at the Virginia Film Festival years ago. Hadn't heard of him doing anything in a while, but he was a good mentor, and this seems like a break.

Apparently someone can't read. "From Deadline" is written out in pretty clear English. They don't exactly get their news from random comic-book writers.
Does Deadline quote who the source is or did the mighty Deadline just pull the same Millar (not "random Comic-Book Writer" Millar but "Kick-Ass Creator and Producer" Millar) quote that he's been repeating for the past year? The same thing he said as recent as two weeks ago. He is known for hyperbole and overstating schedules and movie plans. Again, who did they "hear" this from? |

For some reason I thought this had been announced quite a while ago.

Re: Kick-Ass 2 happening?
Millar might suck now but he had several awesome stories:
Superman: Red Son The Ultimates Old Man Logan Wanted and Kick-Ass was too depressing for me. I like the movie versions better. |
Re: Kick-Ass 2 happening?
I liked the original and really liked Vaughn's take on the source material. I had hoped he would be involved with any sequel. I'm still interested, but without him my hope for a good flick wanes a bit...

Re: Kick-Ass 2 happening?
Digital Spy has a discussion with Mark Millar about the progress of the KICK-ASS movie sequel, which we recently learned would be helmed by NEVER BACK DOWN's Jeff Wadlow. Millar discusses the casting of the film (as far as anyone can tell, the first movie's original cast is expected to return), and quite a bit more.
Choice snippets include... So Jeff Wadlow has been appointed as director on Kick-Ass 2. Why was he chosen to helm the project? "Matthew Vaughn chose the director about 18 months ago secretly because he knew he wasn't going to be doing Kick-Ass 2 since he had taken on the X-Men franchise." There are some very controversial scenes in the Kick-Ass 2 comic book. Will it have to be toned down for the screen? "Every horrible scene in the book will be in the film. The c**t line in the first one, everybody said 'there's no way you're getting that in the movie', but it happened and it's the same thing with this. Everybody is saying 'you can't have a gang rape scene with supervillains' and 'you can't have the dog's head cut off', but every single one of those scenes will go in it." How much material from the Hit-Girl spinoff comic is going to make it into Kick-Ass 2? "Hit-Girl will be the first 30 minutes of the movie and then the next 70 minutes is Kick-Ass 2. So Hit-Girl is structured as the first act." |
Re: Kick-Ass 2 happening?
Interesting, I still have a hard time believing those scenes will make it.
|
Re: Kick-Ass 2 happening?
A lot has to do how the scenes are filmed and cut.
|
Re: Kick-Ass 2 happening?
Never heard of the new director. Didn't care to see NBD, looked boring. Is the guy any good at directing? Looking at his work...never knew he existed.
|
Re: Kick-Ass 2 happening?
I loved the first film and loved the sequel comic as well. I'm down for this on day one.
|
Re: Kick-Ass 2 happening?
Ugh, when isn't Millar pumping up one of his properties. Dude has a big mouth and is always jocking something. Whether it's true or not.
|
Re: Kick-Ass 2 happening?
I have to say I only kind of enjoyed the first one but didn't really love it. I'll check the sequel out but it's nothing I'm overly looking forward to or anything.

Re: Kick-Ass 2 happening?
Per Moviehole:
Mother Russia will feature in director Jeff Wadlow’s “Kick-Ass 2″ – just as soon as the filmmaker finds the right woman for the job. The character, like in the comics, will serve as a Bodyguard for Red Mist in the movie. Casting directors are on the hunt for an “extremely tall, large, fit” female of 25 to 40 to play the part. As yet, they’re still unable to settle on an actress for the part. Agencies have been given the following specs on the character : “Classic Villain. An ex-KBG officer who is now being paid by the week by Chris to fight in his group — she is easily the most skilled and just a ruthless killer in general. Described as a ‘roided-out female bodybuilder, she needs to be extremely physically imposing and muscular, though still come across as feminine. As tall as possible (6ft and over only). Indicate height on submission.” The Universal release is locked in for a September start in Toronto , before some shooting in London. http://moviehole.net/img/kickass21.jpg |
Re: Kick-Ass 2 happening?
I think it would be awesome to at least once in my life to sleep with an “extremely tall, large, fit female".
I would feel just like a male praying mantis..... Like the insect, I would never expect my head being snapped off upon my climax. On an unrelated note, I would have preferred to have had Vaughn direct this. But not at the expense of him not directing the next X-men movie in a reasonable timely fashion. |
Re: Kick-Ass 2 happening?
Seems like Mother Russia could be a good part for Gwendoline Christie from Game of Thrones.

Honesty..w/o Vaughn..this film totally is on the edge of not being in my interest. The trailer will be the one of the last two deciding factors as to whether I'll watch it or not. |

Netflix is an option; and even though it is a monthly cost, I don't view that as money out of my wallet. Come to think of it, I usually don't have money on me. Digital/credit/debit purchases seem to consume my life. I could watch it on a premium movie channel, but this is the same scenario as Netflix. Still costs me money to see it. It would be awesome if the Internet somehow could let you get movies you don't want to pay for to see. There has to be a way... On an unrelated note, thank you for acknowledging my post as good. I try harder than I should with my posts; based on it being an Internet conversation about various topics, with people I don't have any evidence to show are even human. |

Donald Faison ("Turk" from Scrubs) will be Dr. Gravity in Kick Ass 2, a sidekick of Kick Ass.

Re: Kick-Ass 2 happening?
Jim Carrey Sought for Kick-Ass 2 http://comingsoon.net/nextraimages/colonel-carrey.jpg Though still far from a sure thing, Deadline is reporting that Universal Pictures is attempting to court Jim Carrey, a self-professed fan of Matthew Vaughn's original, for their Kick-Ass 2. He'd play the part of Colonel Stars, a military-themed superhero who founds the super-team Justice Forever. If he signs on, Carrey will join Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, John Leguizamo, Donald Faison, Robert Emms, Yancy Butler and Morris Chestnut in the adaptation of the Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr. comic. The sequel will be directed by Never Back Down helmer Jeff Wadlow and will feature a script by Vaughn. Carrey, who last appeared on the big screen in Mr. Popper's Penguins, is slated to star opposite Steve Carell in the upcoming comedy The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. Re: Kick-Ass 2 happening?
How are they going to get Carrey on the budget set for Kick-Ass 2? It's less than the first film.
