Looks like Mendelson hated it and one of his click bait headlines said worst Bond in 30 years or some shit.

Yea because anything could be worse than Die Another Day.

I read a review that confirms a twist I've long feared was hinted at in the trailers. It's not the exact twist I thought...but close...and sounds unnecessary. Hopefully it plays well.

66% on RT...on par with Quantum of Solace...
Obviously I haven't seen the movie yet, but there's one thing I can nod my head to after reading that review: bring back Martin Campbell.

Wow, the worm turned pretty fast. Most of you were all up on Sam Mendes' jock and now want Campbell back?
Breath through your mouths much?
Wait until you see the new one before making judgement.

Stop generalizing. There is a pretty vocal minority on this site that didn't care for Skyfall, including me. Go back to Skyfall's review thread if you don't believe it.
And because of my dislike of Skyfall, my expectations for Spectre have been low ever since it was announced Mendes would be back in the director's chair.
Campbell is two for two in my book, and Casino Royale is a top 3 Bond of all time. Yes, bring him back.
Also, breathe through your mouths much? Really?

That was a bit strong, I'll admit, but the majority of folks liked Skyfall and hailed Mendes as a great Bond director. Do critics really have that much sway now, because that's what I get from the stupid click bait headlines I'm reading with regards to the film. Readers and those posting comments seem to be eating that shit up and it's not fair. (yes, it's the internet after all but still)
Just putting it out there. I'm seeing it this weekend. All of the Brosnan Bonds were awful except for Goldeneye. The stupid click bait headline of Spectre being the worst in 30 years is hogwash.

Honestly Campbell and Mendes are both solid directors for Bond. Mendes just got the highly derivative script that was Skyfall, where Campbell got better material in both Goldeneye and Casino Royale.
I wasn't a fan of Marc Foster's work because the entire movie seemed extremely choppy, the fight scenes were too Bourne-esque and it just lacked that cinematic elegance we got from the other two guys this generation -- and then there was a cut and paste 90s Bond finale. But even he had an out because the script was apparently incomplete due to the writer's strike and his trademark well edited scene transitions.

I think there was just no way this movie was going to match SKYFALL (that was really a once-in-a-generation BOND film) so the backlash from some is going to be pretty strong. Sounds like this one is more of a typical/average BOND movie by comparison.
And I don't want to hear about how great GOLDENEYE was...that movie plays VERY cheesy these days. In fact, all the Brosnan films do.

Honestly, assuming we're talking global box office, it should have made that by Christmas.

Having already opened in five countries, Spectre has made $80 million so far.
I do think studios need to stop making movies that need to get close to a billion dollars just to hit the break even point. There's no way that's a sustainable business model.

Since I had low marks for Skyfall despite the positive reviews, the lower review scores here don't really bother me nor altered my middle of the line expectations. Still going to watch it regardless.

Craig basically said today that he's probably going to do 1 more Bond movie to fulfill his contract, but doesn't want to think about it right now.
He was on The Today Show and I'm presuming his comments from last month were sort of taken out of context. As some of us were talking about earlier in this thread, the SPECTRE shoot was probably exhausting and he needs a break and doesn't want to think about the next movie for awhile.

Campbell did a great job introducing the Brosnan and Craig Bonds. It would be nice for him to return to usher Craig off his last Bond film.

I really enjoyed Skyfall, and am looking forward to this new one. But I like Campbell as an introduction to a new Bond (which may happen with the next one).

I dunno, Campbell is 72 now. By the time they get to a new Bond he'll be pushing 80 or right after. Dangerous, since he gave us Green Lantern just a few years ago.

Hey. Some directors in their old age have hit out great films. He has a spotty record though. Maybe he just really excels at Bond? Edge of Darkness was crap from what I heard. GL was a piece of shit.

I just looked up that he was the oldest Bond director when doing CR, but still even if he's older now, someone like Clint (even older) seems to be doing fine these days. Ridley Scott is 77 and just did The Martian.
