It also happened with Calvin and Hobbes. "Was I adopted"? ended up getting changed to "was I genetically engineered or cloned?" for the reissue.

Bill Watterson adopted a child/children at some point after that strip was published, so there was speculation that he changed it for that reason.

Re: The Avengers (Whedon, 2012) — The Reviews Thread

Went to see it again tonight, and the 9:30 2D showing was a near sellout. The auditorium was 90% full or better. It was difficult to gauge how many of the audience was seeing it for the first time, but judging from their reaction to many of the scenes, I would say that at least half had not seen it before.

I enjoyed it every bit as much this time, and maybe even a bit more in parts. This is, for my money, the perfect comic book movie.

Oh, and we always smuggle extra food in (although we also usually pick up a pizza or other goodies from the snack bar), and tonight, we had the closest thing we could get to shawarma - we had gyros, and somehow they were especially good tonight.

Yeah, shawarna is badass. Love it like crazy now that I've tried it.

Shawarma is disgusting and I'll stand by that. But then again I've never liked Mediterranean food.

Well, as opposed to $100 and $90, a Gyro and a Shwarma tend to cost the same.

I've never tried "true" shawarma, but as I understand it, people who prefer gyros say that shawarma is too bland, while people who prefer shawarma say that gyros are too spicy. Based on the characters' reaction to their shawarma, it looked pretty bland (yeah, I know, they were exhausted from the fight ).

Saw the movie again today and enjoyed it just as much as the first time but I do have a question for those of you well versed in the world of Iron Man

Spoiler:
Now I understand that the mini arc reactor was built to keep the shrapnel from getting to his heart. Is the thing supposed to be on 100% of the time? There were a few scenes that it wasn't lit through his shirt and I was wondering if it needed to be on all the time.

The scenes that it stuck out for me was when Fury, Cap and Stark were around the table after Coulsons death, throughout the whole scene you couldn't see it through his shirt. The same shirt that the reactor was previously visible through.

Also when Loki tries to tap the scepter at his chest, the lights from the reactor weren't visible then either.

It just struck me as odd since you can see it in pretty much every other scene Stark is in.

not sure why that is spoilerized .... probably just in power saving mode
in the comic books (at least the ones I read growing up) it was never lit up through the shirt of Tony Stark but he does have to recharge it

I spoiled it cause I don't want to be that guy who spoils something. You would assume this many pages in to the review that most everyone reading this thread has seen the movie, but you never know.

Wherever you heard that, it would have been a reference to certain action shots during the NYC battle, shot on a Canon 5DMII.

Great scene and line!

Two biggest laughs from the audience I was with:
Spoiler:
The above scene when Hulk cuts off Loki's rant mid-sentence by whipping him against the floor like a rag doll.
And when Hulk & Thor fight side by side, and after a brief pause, Hulk punches Thor just for the sake of punching something else.

Terrific action flick.

Very happy it lived up to the hype, although I am not sure I cared for the 3D.

We enjoyed the hell out of it.

Re: The Avengers (Whedon, 2012) — The Reviews Thread

Saw it again, but this time in non-3d and with a less enthusiastic crowd so I could actually hear the dialogue in the fight scenes. Also, maybe I just missed it, but I don't remember seeing the Lego Avengers short the first time I went... it was pretty good, and they actually called it the cosmic cube, so points for that alone.

I guess Cap does address the whole "not going after the tessaract device" thing, since Thor comes down and reiterates that it's impenetrable and Cap basically changes the plan to "let's stop them here." I missed that the first time. Also widow powers up her wrist blasters, but I don't think she ever actually uses them, does she?

Someone before mentioned that Caps helmet keeps coming on and off... I only noticed it on the ship when Thor appears, but there was time for him to put his helmet on. In the last fight scene, they do a good job with showing the Chitauri pulling his hood off (which again I missed in my first viewing, I think because I was sitting too close... it also wasn't obvious to me the first time what the heck was going on with Hawkeye's quiver and arrowheads)

And yeah, the whole Stark shirt thing was glaringly overlooked a bunch of times... is it constantly glowing through his shirt in Iron Man 2 (which I haven't seen yet)?

Yeah when Cap's helmet came off and the woman in the bank was staring at him, I thought they were going to suggest that woman might have been related to someone Cap knew back in the 40's or somehow linked to Steve Rogers.

Seriously?
While I would not go to the extreme of the original complainer, the author in this article is a piece of crap in my book for taking light of it. My son is adopted and I must say while at the moment watching the movie it did not offend me outright I did not find it funny at all. When I look back on it I can definitely say it was joke that was uncalled for. Unfortunately there will always be "jokes" in a movie that will offend someone. But for for an author to then make light of how dare someone could even fathombly be offended by it is rude and unsympathetic to the other person's feelings.

And I suppose in a way you would fall into that category with your "Seriously" comment as well then? But I guess I just need to turn the other cheek and realize "It's just a joke".

Re: The Avengers (Whedon, 2012) — The Reviews Thread

Saw this on Saturday night.

Hmmm, well, the move is a convoluted mess, in short. If I were writing a review, I would still give it a positive review, but only lightly positive. It is entertaining, but there are far too many "wait, what, seriously?" moments for me. Ultimately, it succeeded far more as a comedy than as an action film. I have to admit there were several moments where I laughed out loud.
