I saw this today using the $7.50 off Fandango code from buying the 1st movie on BD recently.
Overall, it was a pretty good follow up to the 1st movie. I laughed quite a few times and the Minions were great. I'm looking forward to seeing how they carry their own movie without Gru and the kids.
I don't agree with Joe's complaint at Post #42 saying that Gru was dull. The character has evolved from being a bad guy in the 1st movie to still learning to be a father and evolving into a hero.
I was trying to figure out the song at the end of the movie that the Minions were singing. It sounded like "I Swear" by All 4 One.

What do you mean by that? The animation was theatrical quality, unless you're talking about the story not being good enough for a theatrical film?
The Disney direct to video sequels for a lot of their hit movies were pretty low budget, TV quality animation and that's why they were direct to video.

as for the DTV Disney titles, the animation for 'Hunchback of Notre Dame II' is beyond awful - it truly is cringe inducing.

That's the thing with CG. All the resources are there so it's pretty hard to screw that up. The story was lame and the jokes fell flat. Stars returning for a payday blurs those lines even more.

My thoughts on this film echo that of Monsters University. Cute, but unnecessary.
I finally got to see this the other day. I really wanted to see it in 3D, but all Vegas theaters eliminated 3D showings of the flick when The Wolverine came out. Bah.
