Muppets Most Wanted (2014, D: Bobin, S: Gervais, Fey, Burrell)
Disney preps 'Muppets' sequel
James Bobin, Nicholas Stoller to pen follow-up
By Marc Graser
Disney's 'The Muppets' grossed more than $150 million at the worldwide box office.
Disney is moving forward with a sequel to "The Muppets" after the return of Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and friends went on to earn more than $154.8 million at the worldwide box office.
James Bobin, who helmed "The Muppets," and co-writer Nicholas Stoller will write the script for the sequel. First film took home the Oscar for best song on Sunday for "Man or Muppet." Bret McKenzie penned the tune.
Kermit and Miss Piggy had already announced the sequel while on an international tour for the first film, saying that the follow-up was officially moving forward during a Feb. 13 appearance on ITV's "This Morning" daytime talker.
Jason Segel, who was instrumental in getting the first film made and co-wrote the script with Stoller, may star in the sequel, but his various projects (which include CBS' "How I Met Your Mother" and films "The Five Year Engagement" and "This Is 40") are keeping him too busy to pen the sequel.
"The Muppets" was produced by David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman.

Hopefully, Bobin and Stoller will run things by Siegel, even if he's too busy.

If Segal isn't involved as a writer, then I don't see any need for him as an actor unless as a cameo. I think they should take the approach they did with Great Muppet Caper and do something that is more of an indirect sequel, but please, no more versions of the Muppets doing classic books or movies. I just don't want this to wind up being a Muppets in Space.

I will agree that Christmas Carol was good. I just felt that it was more of a production of the work with the Muppets as side characters as opposed to them being the focus, same goes for Treasure Island.

I also don't see a reason for Segal to come back for any major role. Regardless, I look forward to any new Muppets, but I hope Fozzie's voice is improved.

Segal is definitely out;
My goal was to bring The Muppets back and I did that leaving them in very good hands, my writing partner and James Bobin the director. All I wanted to do was to set the stage for them to do whatever they wanted. I did what I set out to do, and now I wanna pursue more human-related projects. I’m sure I’ll return in some capacity here and there, but that was half a decade of my life. Five years of hard work. I’m ready for a little puppet break.

Really? 5 years? Damn, that sounds about right. More power to him. I'd like to still see him work behind the scenes though.

The 'Modern Family' actor will play an inspector in the sequel to the 2011 Muppets reboot; Christoph Waltz was in talks for the role.
Ty Burrell, one of the stars of ABC's Modern Family, is set to join the cast of Disney's sequel to The Muppets as one of the movie’s human stars.
Christoph Waltz was in talks for the role, but the Austrian actor’s schedule prevented the studio from making a deal.
James Bobin, who directed the 2011 Muppets film, is returning to helm the follow-up and co-wrote the screenplay with Nicholas Stoller.
The adventure moves from Hollywood to Europe, and while the film is expected to have a slew of cameos -- as is the Muppets' movie tradition -- one of the key roles is an Interpol inspector, whom Burrell will portray. (Another notable character is a Russian femme fatale.)
The Muppets grossed $158 million worldwide and relaunched a movie franchise for the studio. It starred and was co-written by Jason Segel, but he is not returning for the sequel.
David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman, who produced The Muppets, are back to produce the sequel, which will shoot in London this winter.
Burrell has won a slew of awards for his comedy work in Modern Family, including an Emmy in 2011 for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series.
He recently wrapped voicing the lead role of Mr. Peabody in DreamWorks Animation's Mr. Peabody & Sherman, based on the classic 1950s/’60s characters that appeared as part of the Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon shows. The movie will be released in November 2013.
He will shoot two indies in the new year -- The Skeleton Twins with Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig and the ensembler Switch -- and is developing a new show for ABC that he is writing and co-executive producing with his brother, Duncan. The comedy is based on the Burrells' childhood in Oregon.
He is repped by ICM Partners and attorney J. Franklin Stewart.

Don't get me wrong, I love "Phil" but one of the biggest problems with the cameos in the first movie was that they were mostly all culled from ABC/Disney properties. They need to branch out for part II.

Sounds like they're doing something in the vein of The Great Muppet Caper.
I guess this time around they can fit in Star Wars characters as well.

Ricky Gervais has announced he's playing the lead
"I have just signed up to play the lead in the next Muppet Movie. I have the biggest trailer but Kermit will spend some time in my sink."

Glad to see Walter in that trailer. I hope we see more of Rizzo & the rats, and also give Peppe a bigger role with this movie.

Wow... it took weeks and weeks to get a title change on American Hustle, but a few hours for this?

Looks fun. Lots of good little bits in here and the plot seems like it could be pretty entertaining.
