Maybe time will be better to it. It's not without its problems but definitely not nearly as bad as it's made out to be. |
Re: Why exactly did/do people hate 'Quantum of Solace'?
I don't even look at it as a movie but a long deleted scene from the end of Casino Royale. I enjoy all three Craig films and can't wait for the rest.

But had it been a fraction of a second flash of bush instead of panties, QoS may have been better than Goldeneye. *sigh* What could have been...

Re: Why exactly did/do people hate 'Quantum of Solace'?
I'd rather watch any of the Brosnan movies over QoS. Even DAD.

Re: Why exactly did/do people hate 'Quantum of Solace'?
It's not just Quantum of Solace for me. I've seen at least 10 Bond movies, haven't liked a single one. The character just isn't all that interesting. I always feel like I'm watching a fully realized European car commercial. And I don't mean that in a good way.

Re: Why exactly did/do people hate 'Quantum of Solace'?
I didn't hate it, i just felt it had a weak storyline with the whole hoarding water. The villains were also uninteresting. I seem to recall the Dalton movie where they had like an Army General (Joe Don Baker if i recall) as a co-bad guy and it was just awful. Same thing here. I am also not a fan of Olga Kurylenko. She is easy on the eyes but she is a terrible actress. I do think QoS has its moments. The opening is pretty good. The Opera scene is nice.
It just really went nowhere. I like the idea of Quantum and would like to see the organization pop up in future movies, but the rest of the movie was generally dull. |
The action sequences and editing are really clumsy, and the film was rushed into production without a finished script, and it shows. Having said that, this is probably the closest thing to an "auteur" the Bond franchise is ever likely to get, and this is one of the few Bond flicks where Bond is actually against the government rather than for it, and there's a slight political edge that runs through it. It's basically structured as a Hitchcock man-on-the run type film. I've heard a few contrarians suggest that maybe time will kinder to it than it has to some other Bond flicks.

Re: Why exactly did/do people hate 'Quantum of Solace'?
It seems that the internet is only capable of dealing in hyperbole. Casino Royale and Skyfall are praised to high heavens while Quantum of Solace is an atrocity. I think they're all really enjoyable, and they all have their share of flaws. The Craig Bond films are probably the most consistent in terms of quality, even if they're not perfect. I think the other runs peak higher, but also sink lower.

What's cool about QoS is that if you look at the cast IMDB page it says Alfonso Cuaron and Guillermo del Toro contributed voices to the film - they went uncredited. I guess a lot of those actors that looked like they spoke Spanish really didn't.

I like it as Casino Royale pt 2.

 Craig is the best Bond ever. |

It's during the party that Greene is hosting. Del Toro's voice is easy to spot. I don't know what Cuaron sounds like but apparently he dubbed the same scene as another guest.

As for Quantum of Solace, I really don't think it's as terrible as a lot of people make it out to be but is overall forgettable and not as good as the other two Craig Bond films. |

I've always found Dalton's run as Bond extremely underrated.
Though Connery will always be the archetype, Dalton is my personal favorite. |

I'll probably get shit on for saying this but I really don't think Goldeneye is all that great. I think I had a lot of nostalgia for it because of all the fun times I had back in the day playing the game on Nintendo 64 and I associated the movie with the game obviously but the movie itself has really aged terribly if you ask me. I'd take the Dalton Bond films over any of the Bosnan films any day to be honest. I've always found Dalton's run as Bond extremely underrated.

Re: Why exactly did/do people hate 'Quantum of Solace'?
I still think QOS is a terrible movie. The biffest thing it failed at is how terribly every action scene was shot.I still remember the opening car chase in the theatre and I had no idea what in the hell was going on. And since the Bond movies are known for action sequences, for them to fail in this regard is inexcusable.
As for the talk about which Bond is best, I honestly think each Bond was the best for their generation. Moore wouldn't work in the Connery movies,Dalton wouldn't work in the Moore movies, and Craig wouldn't work in the Brosnan movies. So comparing them is kind of a mute point. |

Goldeneye brought us Sean Bean. From then on, he would be known to the world, even though he had already been around for years. He nails his performance. Also, Famke Janssen was gifted to us. That Nintendo 64 game was great. My favorite Dalton performance is in License To Kill, because that was the first Bond film I ever saw in theaters. |
