Which members do you trust for film reviews?

I don't really follow any national or local film critics, but I do (generally) trust the word of some members here when they're vocal about a film's quality.

Is there anyone here that you can usually count on whose tastes align with your own?

(I'm well aware this thread could quickly devolve. Mods, stand by.)

Re: Which members do you trust for film reviews?

I hardly ever read film reviews anywhere.

I do like the DVD/Blu-ray product reviews here, though.

I don't know if he's a member here or not (he's never posted as far as I know), but I always read what Glenn Erickson has to say. I don't agree with him all of the time but he's always interesting.

Dr. Mabuse, Supermallet, Ash Ketchum(except when there is a Fox involved) and I would say Groucho but he likes everything and so he has no standards.

Who's the member who won't see a movie unless it's Rated R and over 2 hours?

There's not one particular DVDTalker that comes to mind. However, if there's a film that I'm "on the fence" about, I'll check out a reviews thread just to get a vibe for the overall opinions of it.

I used to always take the opposite of what Brian Orndorf wrote.

Not a member. But only Ebert. I only pay attention to Ebert. Even then, I don't let him sway me.

Re: Which members do you trust for film reviews?

I don't follow online movie critics in general. I've read a few here but no one so far has won me over. I'm sure some are doing a great job with it but I haven't given it the time to discover them. I do read some of the DVD reviews though. i don't like it when they review a movie within the DVD review. Saying you like or dislike the film is fine but don't do a full on review of it. By the time a flick is released on DVD it's been reviewed to death and I already know how i feel about it. I want to know about the extras on the disc and if there's any problems with the video and audio. I don't view movie reviews and DVD reviews as the same thing. That's just me. DVD Savant seems to find the right balance and I enjoy his column very much. I also enjoy reading the lively debates on films in these threads by the members. However, I don't enjoy the debates on TV shows around here. It seems if you don't love every single episode in a series you get attacked and labeled a "hater" and are dismissed and told to just not watch the show anymore. I don't have an issue with someone disagreeing with me but don't get rude about it and tell me what I can and can't watch. I dislike that kind of attitude.

KillerCannibal

And while I don't always agree with him, I enjoy Ash Ketchum's insightful posts.

Re: Which members do you trust for film reviews?

the irony here is that just this morning i was thinking of starting a thread "DVDTalk members who you feel have a similar taste as yourself".... KC would've been #2 with NoirFan being #1 (even though he rarely posts in the movie forum). those 2 are what i would consider kindred spirits however i respect a lot of opinions on this forum. Ordnorf is the only professional reviewer i read on the regular. i don't always agree with him but i think he's a talented writer.

Re: Which members do you trust for film reviews?

I don't really go off reviews much. If I want to see something I usually will to form my own opinion despite reviews. There are some on this board that I usually find my views fall in line with though: Dr. Mabuse, Killer Cannibal, Suprmallet, Solid Snake PAC are among them.

Re: Which members do you trust for film reviews?

Osiris, Noirfan, Dr. Mabuse -- mostly anyone who talks about foreign films and indie flicks. Also, the poster Sondheim, from what Ive read I think have the most similar tastes.
