The chick from part 3? She wasn't ever meant to be his girlfriend. She made a point of mentioning that in some interviews she did prior to the third film's release. Daniel was still dating the Japanese hotty. He even says so in part 3 when he briefly talks to his mom at the beginning.

May as well have a remake. At least they have a successful template already there.

Why write a new song? Cover some John Parr hit from 1985. May as well, right?

I understand the point that it's great to have something new and fresh, but how many new titles these days are something truly original, that don't at least resemble a film or series of events we've already seen? Every now and then you get something way out there like Inception or Memento (Nolan love here), but an original story only makes up a small fraction of what makes a movie enjoyable - at least for me.

Well they clearly have a great cast with equally great chemistry, they could do anything with that in place. Why go back to the well, when it's clear they could make anything work with this cast.

So you might as well remake Mannequin then. Gotcha.

I thought I understood you, too. But frankly, I'm surprised you didn't make another bad, old-timey "joke" there. Soon enough, I guess.

Jaden Smith’s ‘Karate Kid’ Sequel Draws Breck Eisner to Direct
April 7, 2014 | 12:39PM PT
Film Reporter
Dave McNary

Sony has signed Breck Eisner to direct its sequel to “The Karate Kid,” its hit 2010 actioner starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan.

The rebooted “Kid” grossed $343 million worldwide with Harald Zwart directing. Jerry Weintraub, Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith, James Lassiter and Ken Stovitz produced.

Eisner’s credits include “Sahara” and “The Crazies.” He’s also attached to Summit’s fantasy-actioner “The Last Witch Hunter,” starring Vin Diesel.

Eisner is repped by CAA and Management 360.

Jaden has aged quite a bit since the last movie.

I wonder if the sequel will still have Dre and his Mom still living in China or if they will move back to the States.

Re: Karate Kid 2: I Know Kung Fu! - News, Cast, Rumors

4 years since the last one.

They should make Jaden a full on asshole in China and Jackie Chan trains another to take him down.

Macchio's KK 1, 2, 3 took place in the span of year. I don't think they can even go thru that with Jaden.

They got lucky with Macchio - he looked like he was 16 for about 20 years.

'Karate Kid 2' Lands New Writers
5:26 PM PST 06/25/2014 by Borys Kit

Karate Kid 2 has kicked up some new writers.

Jeremiah Friedman and Nick Palmer have been tapped to work on the script for the sequel to Sony's and Overbrook’s hit 2010 movie that starred Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan.

The duo are the latest scribes on the project; Zak Penn and team Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris also have worked on the script.

Breck Eisner was on board as director but is no longer involved, and sources cited a scheduling conflict as the reason for his departure.

While Friedman and Palmer don't have any produced credits, they are known for their action comedy scripts.

They have Family Getaway set up at Warners with Todd Strauss-Schulson attached to direct; Secretaries Day set up at Columbia with Will Gluck producing; and Speeding Bullet set up at Universal with Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg producing.

They are repped by at UTA, Mosaic and attorney Warren Dern.

If this is legit, then this really flew under the radar:

But I have to question this because I can't think nobody noticed this was getting made.

What in the hell? No trailer?

Re: Karate Kid 2: I Know Kung Fu! - News, Cast, Rumors

That's weird. The credit is not listed on Taraji P. Henson or Jaden Smith's IMDB profile.

When the hell would Taraji Henson would have had time to film this? She works on Empire from July to roughly March.

IMDB says his character would be dead

If this is real, Sony is not involved with the production aspect at all.

Wouldn't surprise me if it's VOD and then DVD/BD.

I just got the e-mail from Gofobo about attending an upcoming free Karate Kid 2 screening near my area. It's a legit company.

So apparently this movie does exist even though there are zero details about it.
