Life of Crime (D: Schechter; S: Hawkes, Def, Aniston, Fisher) - Jackie Brown Prequel
Apparently this is happening? Variety is reporting the following:
The prequel to Quentin Tarantino's "Jackie Brown" is moving forward and has now cast its two main leads, John Hawkes (Winter's Bone, Contagion) and Mos Def (16 Blocks, Be Kind Rewind) who will play younger versions of Robert De Niro and Samuel L Jackson.
The story is based on Elmore Leonard's "The Switch" book and is set 15 years before the events in "Jackie Brown." It follows career criminals Ordell and Louis as they team up to kidnap Mickey Dawson, the wife of a corrupt Detroit real estate developer. When the husband refuses to pay the ransom for his wife's return, the ex-cons are forced to re-conceive their plan, and the angry housewife uses the duo to get her revenge.
The new movie will be directed by Dan Schechter.

Anyone got odds on this being straight to video?

So it's not a prequel to Tarantino's "Jackie Brown", but an adaptation of Leonard's "The Switch". Just so we're clear on that...

So if there's a cameo in "The Switch" from a white airline stewardess named Jackie Burch who's an associate of Ordell's, then we'll know it's completely ripping off Tarantino right?

It's Yasiin Bey now. He retired the name Mos Def.

I assume the folks that are complaining about the terminology are the ones that have been wrong about it for previous movies.

Or you can just admit that you were wrong and get on with it so us "douchebags" wouldn't have to go on and on about anything.
Fincher's movie wasn't a remake of the Swedish film.

Sounds like it could be alright. The book is pretty good from what I remember (read it a while back).

While the title of the thread is empirically misleading, we're not in the late 90's anymore, when everything Elmore Leonard was getting optioned, and I think the fact that The Switch is getting made has less to do with Leonard's book and more to do with the cache Tarantino brought to the characters when he made Jackie Brown.
