Get The Gringo -- D: Grunberg S: Mel Gibson --

Director: Adrian Grunberg
Writer: Grunberg/Gibson
Starring: Gibson, Peter Stormare, Bob Gunton, Dean Norris (Hank from Breaking Bad)

Plot: A career criminal (Gibson) nabbed by Mexican authorities is placed in a tough prison where he learns to survive with the help of a 9-year-old boy.

This was previously titled "How I Spent My Summer Vacation"

It was shot almost 2 years ago but shelved due to Mel Gibson's personal problems. Also because of those problems this is not going to be released theatrically. It will come out on May 1st on Direct TV and VOD later this year.

I'd watch it.

Watching the fall of Mel has been very depressing. This doesn't look bad but it also doesn't have the production quality i've come to expect from a Mel Gibson action flick. I'll see it...when it hits Netflix.

I have nothing bad to say about Mel Gibson. And the movie looks cool. I'm getting a bit worn down by these types of "cool", traditional, violent crime films. But it looks good.

Just like I don't care about Tom Cruise's personal beliefs I don't care about Mel Gibson's crazed rants...they're both good actors and I enjoy their work.

I still love Mel it's just kind of sad where his career has gone. I'd love another Mad Max.

Lethal Weapon I could go either way on. I think 4 may be enough.

Mel is going to be in Austin for the screening. I got on the waiting list for it, but I'm not going to sit there for a few hours just to hope to get in. Either way, I do want to see it. Looks like it could be fun.

I was there tonight. Great turnout and I really enjoyed the movie. It felt like a faster paced Payback in Mexico.

I was reading on TMZ that someone inquired as to Mel's relationship with the director during filming, who was Jewish. Said to be very awkward.

I was about 5 feet from him...it was very cringeworthy. Harry Knowles was the one who asked the question. I understand what his intent was but it just came out a little awkward. I will check my ipod vids and see if I caught that one. Mel diffused it really well when the producer also admitted he was Jewish to the crowd and Mel "acted" surprised.

I don't take athletes or actors seriously...I love Braveheart, Apocalypto, and Payback. To me this felt like a new story with Porter and I would rec'd to anyone.

I am not sure what is says about me (or Hollywood) that the 3 best movies I have seen lately and been two direct to video (this and Goon) and a comedy with Channing Tatum.

Re: Get The Gringo -- D: Grunberg S: Mel Gibson --

I was at the Houston screening. I liked the movie, thought it had a good sense of humor, but it felt really low budget. I know that Mel financed the movie himself so it didn't have a studio type budget, but everything about the movie felt low budget.
It was alright, I enjoyed it but it was nothing special.
And to Harry's point that the movie was really violent, a hard R movie...wtf? Not true at all.

This was a real blast. I really enjoyed it.

Mel is at his best here. Good supporting cast too.

Saw this last night and really loved it. I have a feeling this is the type of movie that the more I watch it the more I'll like it.

Re: Get The Gringo -- D: Grunberg S: Mel Gibson --

I had no idea that this movie even existed until I saw a DVD display at Wal-Mart a couple of weeks ago. Gibson may be nuts offscreen, but I still like his movies and this looks like a fun one. I'll definitely be renting this when it hits Redbox. (Aug. 14th, according to its site.)

I'll check it out on DVD. I still like Gibson, it's amazing that his career imploded like this when Hollywood is full of wackos.

Re: Get The Gringo -- D: Grunberg S: Mel Gibson --

This is one of those cases where the re-title is particularly lame.

'How I Spent My Summer Vacation' is that actual title. If you've seen it, you know how often that theme comes up in the film.
