Re: Step Up 4 (Dir: Scott Speer) - July 27, 2012

New title: Step Up Revolution.

... and a new trailer.

<object width="640" height="360"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/gdamC7jUrjs?version=3&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/gdamC7jUrjs?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

It looks like there will be less of a plot in this one, and that's a good thing.

I like that they are bringing over the kid from the last film. I actually liked the 3d entry of the series and this looks like more of the same fun.

I'm missing the lack of dance battles, but this is going to look amazing in 3D.

Loved seeing the 3rd one in 3D... best use of 3D I've ever seen.

Agreed. I'm a bit upset they've switched back to the scope aspect ratio. I agree with Cameron that 1.78:1 is the right ratio for 3D.

Re: Step Up 4 (Dir: Scott Speer) - July 27, 2012

The scope ratio doesn't bother me in the slightest. A DP worth his/her salt can make either ratio work just fine.

Anyhoo, looking forward to this. Now I just need to order the first three on BD.

Fuck you Summit. Deadline just reported:

After last night’s press screenings, it was the talk of the media’s conversations on Twitter.

The question is, how important is the scene? That's what'll be the deciding factor wether they simply cut it or delay the release for a reshoot.

This could only be better if one of the dancers was named "The Joker".

...and he was played by Channing Tatum.

All kidding aside, I actually was hoping Channing Tatum would cameo in this, given several cast members throughout the series are supposed to cameo.

From what a user posted on Deadline, if the scene is deleted, it would effect the the film as the scene in question is apart of one of the bigger set pieces.

So I guess a delay and reshoot is in the cards.

That's too bad.
I've never seen a single one of these movies, but the trailers for this had me looking forward to checking it out.

it's under thirty hours til it's release - what the hell CAN they do - just not release it?? This seems extreme in not offending people.

Yes. In fact, the only reason we're discussing it is because this country is full of pussies.
  1. It's too late in the game to make a last minute change.
  2. It's offensive to the Aurora victims? Boo hoo. If that's the case, remove The Dark Knight Rises and The Amazing Spider-Man from theaters as both films utilize characters in armor and use of gas grenades and guns! Hell, in fact, we should go through every film ever produced and digitally erase anyone wearing full tactical armor alongside the use of guns and grenades. In fact, let's cancel the release of The Expendables 2 and really let the shit hit the fan over here in Movie Talk.
  3. It's a fucking dance movie in 3D that's going to do no business anyway.

Regardless, Deadline later reported that Summit is sticking to their guns (poor choice of words?) and releasing the film unaltered:

The scene also briefly appeared in a trailer released three months ago that the studio is no longer actively servicing. Having taken these steps, Summit will open this inspirational, nonviolent film in theatres nationwide this weekend as originally edited.
Good for them. I'm glad Summit is releasing the film uncut and I can enjoy it in all its 3D glory without some asshole who decided to shoot up an entire theater ruin it for me and the other five people excited to see it this weekend.

LOVED Step Up 3D, though I didn't see it in the theaters because of the 3D upcharging crap. I got the 3D Blu-Ray new from an Ebay seller for a good price, and loved it so much I bought the first 2 movies and will buy this one when it comes out.

Re: Step Up 4 (Dir: Scott Speer) - July 27, 2012

They wouldn't have changed anything anyway. Most places got their hard rives for the film on Tuesday or Wednesday morning. Worst comes to worst, they could have cut the scene and overnighted new hard drives, but that would have taken a tremendous amount of resources at the last minute. I'm sure the meeting was just to see how they'd spin it.

I get you and agree that it shouldn't be cut. But this isn't the first time such kneejerk reactions occured with upcoming films about to be released just after tragic events.

Glad they're gonna release it as is.

Wow. Way to jump to conclusions. I'm glad they didn't change or edit anything and I totally see your point but......to rail on the people who make these decisions in wake of what happened is rather silly. This film is marketed to young people (impressionable) and for the suits to pause and think for a moment on what they are releasing is a good thing. Just a shame it takes a tragedy for them to edit themselves. To bad they don't do this on quality of product. BTW, Expendables II is rated R and a bad example for your rant.

The Boondock Saints is an R-rated flick that was edited down because of Columbine. Even in its unrated form, the film is not that strong of an R-rated movie. So Expendables 2 is not a bad example at all.

I don't think the suits would be apt to edit a R rated action flick but you never know. A PG-13 dance flick aimed at teens, sure.

As I stated before, there's a precedent for R-rated films being cut down. The Boondock Saints is just an example off the top of my head.
