Vote for your favorite Best Picture nominee (2012 Oscars)
This has become an annual tradition, so once again let's see how far apart we are from the Oscar voters. Keep in mind that this is a poll for our favorites and not an attempt to predict the actual Oscar winner.
I still need to see Extremely Loud, The Help, Midnight in Paris, and Moneyball, but I will probably end up voting for The Artist.
Previous DVDTalk poll winners and (Oscar winners):
2011: The Social Network (The King's Speech)
2010: Inglorious Basterds (The Hurt Locker)

Re: Vote for your favorite Best Picture nominee (2012 Oscars)
I've only seen three so far, so I'll hold off on voting:
The Descendants - good, but not great.
Moneyball - really, really good.
The Tree of Life - a masterpiece, one of the best movies I've ever seen.
So, while I doubt anything will win me over enough to not vote for the Malick, it wouldn't be fair to vote yet.

There isn't a single movie on the list that I like as much as The Social Network, The King's Speech, Inglourious Basterds or The Hurt Locker. This is a tough award line-up to care about.

^ So you're voting with the most derivative shot in the movie?

I really don't have an interest in seeing a lot of these movies. So far I've only seen the Descendants and Moneyball. I voted Moneyball because it was more my type of movie but the Descendants was great and wouldn't at all be disappointed if it won.
Before the show I'll watch: Hugo and the Artist. Although I don't have much desire to see the Artist.
I have no desire to see anything else.

I picked The Descendants. Midnight in Paris is a very close 2nd. The only others I've seen are Tree of Life and Moneyball and thought those were good, nothing great.

I've only seen 2 of the movies on the list. I don't think it'd be fair voting due to the fact that 2 of the unwatched movies are probably better than the ones I did watch.

I've seen them all except Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and The Help so I won't pick until I see them but I doubt either of those will trump the three below:
I really, really liked The Artist, Hugo and Moneyball. I'd give The Artist Best Picture, Hugo Best Director and Moneyball Adapted Screenplay. If I had to choose one of those three it would probably be The Artist.
The Descendants was the most disappointing of the ones I've seen.

I also don't understand why a 10th nomination didn't go to a popular movie like Drive or Bridesmaids or for a critical fave like Shame or A Separation.

I've seen all except Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and War Horse and I don't have any desire to see them. I enjoyed The Help, Midnight in Paris, and Moneyball. I was impressed by The Tree of Life but didn't enjoy it. I also was disappointed by The Descendents. It was ok but didn't feel special. I was really disappointed by Hugo, it just felt busy and overdone to me. The headache 3d gives me didn't help. I loved The Artist. It's not a life changing movie but I had a big grin on my face all the way through it.

Bridesmaids? Seriously? That movie was horrible - at least the 50 or so minutes I could bear it.

Seen them all other than 'The Help' and ELAIC. I seriously doubt they would be contenders.
I voted for 'Tree of Life' although if 'Drive' was nominated it would be very close between those two.
Actually, for me, four movies stand out.
Tree of Life
Drive
Midnight in Paris
The Artist
There are other fine films released this year but for me those four stand out head and tails above the rest.

This might be the first year I've seen NONE of them, but I do want to watch Tree of Life, The Artist, Midnight in Paris, Hugo and The Descendants.

I've only seen Tree of Life and Moneyball so far but I don't see any of those other films changing my mind that Tree of Life is the best film from 2011. I liked Moneyball quite a bit but it's not a best picture.
The only other film on that list I'm really looking forward to seeing is the Descendants. I'll eventually see Hugo.
Oh and Melancholia should have been in that list before half of that crap.

I'm definitely going to see The Artist soon. And I'm borrowing my friend's BD of Tree of Life this week. The others I'm interested in I'll catch in HD on cable.

I seem to only go to movies where the theater is empty.
And seriously, with Tree of Life, if you aren't going to see it in a theater, make sure the screen is big and the sound system is capable.
