Awesome. I hope Netflix paid him a billion dollars for it.

I was glad he had regular work for a while doing Voice Overs for The Cleveland Show alongside Kanye West and Seth MacFarlane heh.

I wish Netflix would throw him $30m to fuck around with.

I wonder if this short film is the reason Lynch was visiting Netflix offices about a year or so ago.

I just watched What Did Jack Do? and this thing is hilarious. It’s Lynch through and through.

The interrogation was like watching two completely different sets of dialogue mixing with each other. Answers that were given didn’t have anything to do with the question asked, questions were answered with unrelated questions, the monkey sings at one point, a chicken appears, it was 17 minutes of a Lynch acid trip.

That was the best 17 minutes I've spent so far this year. Loved it.

David Lynch may be working on a new film...

Far before the pandemic arrived, rumblings of a new David Lynch project hit the internet. After the gargantuan artistic achievement of Twin Peaks: The Return, some believed it could be a fourth season of the television show (or movie, as the debate continues to rage on), while other hints clued us into a project for Netflix and another tidbit revealed that it may involve collaborators Naomi Watts and Laura Dern.

Through it all, the filmmaker has stay relatively tight-lipped, but now he’s finally confirmed if it were for the pandemic, he’d likely be in the middle of production on a new project.

“I am in isolation. I love isolation. I’m not able to make films, but I’m able to paint and work on sculpture and work on my YouTube channel. It’s pretty great. I really kind of like isolation,” the director in a new conversation with PCS Literary Magazine. He then adds, if it weren’t for the current state of the world, “I’d be probably making a film or continuing a story.”

While it didn’t reveal any additional details, it is quite reassuring to hear he was that far along in the process that he’d be ready to shoot whatever the project is. Here’s hoping one of our greatest filmmakers stays safe and happily isolated until the world returns to normal and he can embark on this hugely-anticipated new artistic venture.

Ugh, just another reason this pandemic sucks. A new Lynch movie. I've forgotten what that feels like.

Oh man, a new Lynch movie starring Laura Dern and Naomi Watts would be awesome!

I started Twin Peaks: The Return but ended up dropping Showtime and never finished it. I should look into ways to watch it so I can see the rest.

There seems to be some internet chatter that Lynch could be debuting a new film at Cannes this year...

As the Cannes Film Festival will announce its Official Selection on Thursday, Variety is starting to get a slightly clearer picture of what 75th edition will look like, though fewer titles than usual have leaked. Led by Cannes’ artistic director and general delegate Thierry Fremaux, the selection committee has been flooded with late submissions and is now in the thick of deliberations.

Most surprisingly, according to two well-informed sources, there will even be a David Lynch feature film which has been completely off the radar and stars Laura Dern — either as a cameo or a supporting role — along with some other Lynch regulars.

Can't wait for Naomi Watts to be crying on a bed while Laura Dern inhales fumes and punches Kyle Maclachlan and Nic Cage repeatedly as well dressed rabbits get off in the corner.

Any new Lynch is worth a watch.

Ok, Andrew Garfield. I don’t know if I believe him. There is a lot of breadcrumbs out there that could argue that he had been working on something. I guess we’ll see tomorrow when they announce the slate.

If there is actually a film, I’m assuming it must be related to a previous work, hence all the secrecy.

Lynch isn't lying. He's been coy about answering questions about his films, but he's never been shy about promoting new projects. Plus, I know a few people close to Lynch (not personally, but we talk online) who say he hasn't been working on anything. I think the schedule for Cannes comes out tomorrow, so we'll see.

There were denials from Lynch and others regarding The Return before it was announced too.

Are they just messing with us then?
Wisteria plant... the rumored project has gone by the name Wisteria. Pilot turned into a film again... ala Mulholland Drive.

The Cannes line up is out and Lynch is not on it.

I don't know. It seems odd to me that a major trade like Variety would publish something saying they were told by two sources.

Wistera WAS a thing (and may someday still be a thing). Lynch was negotiating with Netflix to do it, then the pandemic hit, and when things started to go back to normal, Netflix no longer wanted to pursue the project. I'm assuming David has pitched it to others, but so far no takers. NOTHING was ever shot though, not even a pilot.

Re: Is David Lynch Done With Making Films?

David Lynch has revealed he can no longer leave his house since being diagnosed with emphysema.

The director of films including Eraserhead and Mulholland Drive, who created and starred in Twin Peaks, shared the revelation in a new interview about his career.

Speaking to Sight & Sound magazine, Lynch, 78, said he was diagnosed with emphysema due to smoking throughout his life and said that, if he directs again, it will have to be remotely as he cannot “go out” due to fears he will get Covid.

“I’ve gotten emphysema from smoking for so long and so I’m homebound whether I like it or not. It would be very bad for me to get sick, even with a cold,” he said, revealing that he “can only walk a short distance before” he’s “out of oxygen”.

It’s because of this that Lynch says it is unlikely he will direct again, but if he does, he will be unable to do so in person. However, while saying “I would do it remotely if it comes to it”, he said: “I wouldn’t like that so much.”

When asked whether his 2010 screenplay Antelope Don’t Run No More will ever make it to screen, Lynch said: “Well, we don’t know what the future will bring, but we remain hopeful.” The full interview with Lynch is available in the new issue of Sight & Sound.

A project Lynch has struggled to get off the ground is an animation called Snootworld, which he began working on two decades ago with Caroline Thompson (The Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands).

“Just recently, I thought someone might be interested in getting behind this, so I presented it to Netflix in the last few months, but they rejected it,” he said.

He did recently release a new album...

David Lynch and longtime collaborator Chrystabell have reunited for a new album. Cellophane Memories comes out August 2 via Sacred Bones. Lynch has directed a video for the single “Sublime Eternal Love,” which you can watch below.

Lynch and Chrystabell have often worked together since she contributed to the soundtrack of his last feature film to date, Inland Empire. Lynch wrote and produced her debut album, This Train, and they reunited for her 2017 EP, Somewhere in the Nowhere. Chrystabell also played the role of agent Tammy Preston in Twin Peaks: The Return. She has said the new album contains “many doors that are left open to wonder, wander and get turned around in,” adding, “It's like mood music, not that it creates mood, but more that it reflects your own.”

Cellophane Memories:

01 She Knew
02 The Sky Falls
03 You Know the Rest
04 So Much Love
05 Two Lovers Kiss
06 The Answers to the Questions
07 With Small Animals
08 Reflections in a Blade
09 Dance of Light
10 Sublime Eternal Love

Well, that sucks.

I don’t love everything Lynch has made but the stuff I do like are some of my favorites.
