Also the Farrelly Bros brought us the whole gross out, sex/bathroom humor type comedy in the 90s.

Not only that, but Blair Witch took viral web marketing by the horns in a way that everyone else since has tried to capture.

1951's Distant Drums brought us the Wilhelm Scream that we hear so often these days.

It's been mentioned already after it was first brought up, Roger Rabbit definitely was ground breaking n the way animation and live action interacted on screen.

Gertie the Dinosaur may be the film Abob is referring too. Don't forget Three Caballeros and Song of the South too!

The first movie to do something isn't necessarily the one that "changed movies".

Tomb Raider (2001) came out before Resident Evil (2002), and I would say it brought about the newer wave of big budget video game movies.

However, Resident Evil 2002, along with 28 Days Later, can be recognized as the movies that brought about the millenium zombie fad in the US (which itself came from the Asian zombie fad ironically started by the first Resident Evil game in 1996). It's all like connected and stuff.

I'd put that one in with Double Dragon and Street Fighter. 90's fighting game craze.

This. Alot of these movies are trend setters but didn't have an influence on movie making overall.

I guess Pulp Fiction because

A. It rocked
and B. Pulp Fiction experimented with storytelling in ways that were unprecedented in films - although not in novels - and many have imitated that since?

All were groundbreaking but did any of them actually "change" movies? It's not like there was a big surge in this style movie. If anything Roger Rabbit should get a mark against it because it begat Cool World.

I'll echo the sentiment "first to do it" doesn't mean it revolutionized film. I will buy into Blair Witch Project being an influential (not revolutionary) film, but it has nothing to do with shaky cameras. It's contribution is its use of viral marketing.

This is one that didn't really change movies but maybe how they were released, but was the 1991 version of Blade Runner the one that inspired the wave of "director's cuts" (as in, separate from the original theatrical cuts)?

Again, umm ... no. D.W. Griffith's "Intolerance" from 1916 is credited as being the first non-linear film. "Pulp Fiction" isn't even close to being the best either. That honor belongs to "Rashomon." Don't forget "Citizen Kane" also. Heck, I would even put another Samuel L. Jackson film ahead of "Pulp Fiction" -- "Basic."

I admit I am biased against Tarrantino. I want to like his work as I admire his passion for his craft. The truth is his work is as far from unprecedented as you can get. If it were called homages to whichever genre he is copying, I would be more accepting. I have issues with trying to claim his work is "original."
