Do you prefer NOT to watch a movie with someone whos already seen it?

Does anyone not like to watch movies with friends who have seen the same film?

Even if they are polite and don't talk during the movie?

A friend of mine acts like the experience is lessened somehow when they're the only one who hasn't seen it. Help me understand.

I don't mind, as long as that person doesn't feel the urge to telegraph what is about to happen.

"Oh man, check this part out. It is soooo nasty!"

Don't know, I'm always the guy who's already seen the movie.

This sums up my thoughts. I don't care if someone has seen it, but don't keep telling me to pay attention because something is about to happen. I'm already watching the movie, what do you expect me to do?

Agreed. I know which people I can trust to shut the heck up and the ones that are like that.

I prefer to watch a movie the first time by myself regardless, but yeah, I prefer to watch a movie with someone who also hasn't seen it. It makes for a more enjoyable experience.

I don't mind, unless we're watching a porno.

Some people are horribly inconsiderate. I was watching Deep Red with a couple people. I had seen it before, so had another guy. He actually...

Spoiler:
Paused the movie at during the mirror scene in the beginning and pointed out the face!

This is how my friend feels but can't articulate why. If the person you're watching the movie with is a neutral observer, it still matters?

I have no problem with watching a movie with someone who has already seen it as long as they don't constantly spoil the thing, plus I enjoy showing people movies I like -- especially when I know it'll get a reaction a la Oldboy.

Neutral or not, my friends always decide that during a movie is a good time to break out the witticisms.

Re: Do you prefer NOT to watch a movie with someone whos already seen it?

As others have said, I don't mind as long as that person is respectful. Some friends and I got together this weekend and watched [Rec]. I was the only one who had seen it, but everyone else except for one person had at least seen Quarantine. One of the people there proceeded to tell crucial parts to the movie right before they happened. "Oh, this is when this happens." I finally had to tell her to knock it off because there was someone there who was coming to the movie completely fresh.

I actually have more of a problem with people coming over to my house and choosing to watch something they have already seen. I like introducing people to new movies, so it sort of annoys me when they want to watch something they've already seen. Slightly off topic, but the other thing that annoys me is when those people bring their own movies to my house to watch! I get that my setup might be better than theirs, but I've got enough movies at home that don't get watched as much as they should. Even worse? The people who bring their own movies are always the ones who have highly compressed, shitty quality downloads.

Then you'd be perfect to answer his question. Do you have friends who'd prefer not to watch a movie with you because you've already seen it?

Your friend probably likes the shared experience of seeing it for the first time with someone else who hasn't seen it either. Does he enjoy seeing movies alone? If it's more than just the two of you does he feel the same if at least somebody watching hasn't seen it either?

Re: Do you prefer NOT to watch a movie with someone whos already seen it?

This topic reminds me of a time back when Scream was new on video. A group of my friends were about to watch it together, and it was new to most of the group. About 5 minutes into the movie, a girl (who had already seen it and very much lacked in the smarts department) said,

Spoiler:
"I won't give away the identity of the killer, but I will say there are two of them..."

I'm not sure why she thought her comment was necessary or how it aided in the viewing of the movie AT ALL. So glad I had already seen it.

Doesn't matter is as long as they keep their yap shut.
