Re: Much Ado About Nothing (Dir: Joss Whedon)

Saw it tonight. Quite enjoyable. If you follow Whedon, you could play a drinking game out of spotting actors he's used before. Amy Acker is a delight as Beatrice, Alexis Denisof is a hoot as Benedick, and Nathan Fillion almost steals the show. Clark Gregg has a lot of wonderful business in the background. The emotional scenes are well done, and the comedy doesn't feel out of place.

It's a very low key piece, clearly shot quickly and under tight budget restrictions, but that gives the picture an off the cuff feel that works in its favor.

Browncoats in the theater almost ruined this very good movie for me.

Saw this tonight, really enjoyed it. The physical humor worked well. Recommended.

Amy Acker doing a pratfall down a flight of stairs was awesome.

Re: Much Ado About Nothing (Dir: Joss Whedon)

Saw this a couple of weeks ago in Seattle on the opening night of the Seattle International Film Festival. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Sometimes I have a hard time following Shakespeare (even though it's apparently English...), but the cast did a great job making it easy to follow the story. Love the physical comedy. There was a Q & A with the cast afterwards and they talked about Amy Acker taking that fall. Joss told her that would be great and she didn't even hesitate to do it.

Afterward that, there was a great open bar and we got to meet Joss, Nathan, Amy and Clark and talk to them about the movie and other things. My wife was disappointed that Nathan wouldn't say if Beckett said yes on the Castle finale and I was disappointed that Clark woudn't spill how he's alive in Agents of Shield. Joss was pretty down to earth and Amy was pretty charming.

I wouldn't mind if Joss rounded up more of his regular crew someday to make another Shakespeare movie at one of his other houses. I'd see it, even without the promise of an open bar.

I think if I were face to face with Amy Acker I would sound like a retarded manchild.

Are they actually acting well? From the trailer it sounded like they're just reading the lines without understanding them, with the exception of Reed Diamond.

It's Shakespeare, and a lot of actors struggle with not just the words, but the rhythms. I think the cast did an admirable job.

Nathan Fillion, in particular, does a really good job of making his lines feel like something he's just thought of saying.

Some of the lines also have similar cadence to lines/deliveries in Serenity.

Just got back from seeing it. I'm not a Shakespeare fan, per se, but really enjoyed it. And yes, there's a whole lot of "spot the Whedonverse actor" in it, but well worth the two hours..

Re: Much Ado About Nothing (Dir: Joss Whedon)

I expected an empty house at 10:30 on a Sunday morning, but there were probably a couple dozen people there (including one who during the credits was rattling off to her friend where all the actors had appeared--I'm a Whedon fan, but oy). My Shakespeare's rusty and it took a little while to get into the rhythm of it, but I thought it was very fun, very sexy, and surprisingly emotional. Amy Acker is cute as hell, and Fillion was great in his role.

I didn't realize or remember that it was actually shot at Whedon's house, which kind of explains some of the decor, like media all over the place. I was thinking, "Why did they stick all this stuff in this house?"

Re: Much Ado About Nothing (Dir: Joss Whedon)

Saw this today and found it really charming and after the first 10-minutes or so of getting used to the dialogue, really got into it. And as other said, the comedy really worked and flowed well. Loved Alexis Denisof and Amy Acker in their roles and yes, Nathan Fillion was great in his small part.
