A Chinese Ghost Story
New film by Wilson Yip (SPL/Flash PointIp Man/Ip Man 2). Apparently it's a remake:

Re: A Chinese Ghost Story
Is the original available on BD. I saw that there are several sequels but must admit to having never seen any of them. In fact, until the remake, I'd not heard of the original.

Re: A Chinese Ghost Story
I believe I've heard of the original. Never saw it. I'll add it into my mental list of movies to see. Didn't know Tsui Hark did it either.
So weird to see a Wilson Yip film without Donnie Yen..considering he did 5 of them in a row.

Re: A Chinese Ghost Story
The Chinese Ghost Story films are all based on stories compiled a couple of centuries ago by Pu Songling:

An earlier film version, ENCHANTING SHADOW, was done in 1960 by Shaw Bros. I have the DVD but haven't watched it yet. I remember seeing the 1987 film on the big screen and being totally blown away. I saw the sequels on other formats and don't recall them that much.

Re: A Chinese Ghost Story
The last version of Chinese Ghost Story, that Tsui Hark was involved in, was the pretty good animated A Chinese Ghost Story: The Tsui Hark Animation (1999).
