The former, Joe Stafford. He was played by the great Scoot McNairy.

Of course, this isn't the first time Ben Affleck and Scott have starred together:

I don't know why but those two I had trouble telling them apart from each other the whole film

Saw it last night and it was amazing. Lets save some time and hand Ben a stack of Oscars.

Agreed with this part. It'd make a decent HBO movie.

This opened wide in Australia two weeks ago.

This past weekend it had an only 7% drop.

Re: Argo (Dir: Ben Affleck)

Really intense. My heartrate was up the whole time. I didn't know the specifics of the rescue.

Spoiler:
Even as they were ascending in the plane, I though the Iranians were going to force them to turn around.

Question...

Spoiler:
The "verification slips". All six of them had to have the slips, right? Or just one slip for six people? If it was one slip for everyone, wasn't that a big loophole for the Iranians? If that part was 'trimmed down' during editing, it seemed awkward that all six people would have to contest a missing white copy. I thought something was going to happen there. And then they were waved through.

Basically, none of the tense events in the movie (the confrontation in the bazaar, the plane ticket availability, and the chase down the runway) happened in real life. And as already said, the Canadians did far, far more (and the CIA did far, far less) than what was shown. Still, it was pretty damn entertaining!

Spoiler:
As was typical at the airport, the Iranians didn't even check for the slips during the actual event. Not quite as dramatic.

And they were to have all come in at the same time presenting those slips, so to lose them as a group wasn't far fetched. I just didn't buy the verification call from the airport to the office. They had basic answering machines back then. You're looking at a 11 - 12 hour time difference, so who would be in their office at 10 - 11 pm?

i just thought it should have ended sooner and rolled the info. scrolls and not like that, but as i said minor nitpick and could be me a little over analyzing.
I absolutely hated that. That and the "Hollywood" car chase ruined the experience for me. I subtracted 2 stars from its rating and won't vote for it for the SAG award based on those two scenes.

Re: Argo (Dir: Ben Affleck)

I listened to a really good interview with Ben Affleck on NPR. He was asked about embellishing the end of the movie and he justified it very well. He basically said that he felt he needed to do it because the real story, while harrowing in itself, wasn't exciting enough for the screen. He felt that he could add exciting elements without corrupting the essence of the story.

He also discussed the beginning and why he provided a backstory to the struggle and discussed some of the shortcomings of the film. It was a great interview. Definitely appreciated the movie more and Affleck as a director.

just saw this yesterday and really enjoyed the film up until the end which became too far fetched to be believable...took me right out of the movie.

What? You didn't believe the car-chase scene where they're chasing after the plane during take-off... and caught up to them?

While it's not a popcorn movie, it was entertaining in a popcorn sort of way.

Best Picture nomination? Naw, can't say I agree with it.

It's in the deleted scenes. Morgan Freeman has a lead foot. Poor Jessica Tandy's hat flew right out the window.

He did what he had to. Miss Daisy's heroin deal went bad and they had to get the fuck out of there.

I haven't seen this, but trailer looks amazing. I didn't know that Ben Affleck is such good director.

Saw it the other day and I'll agree, it was a good movie. And while none of the tense shit happened, it still was alright with it in there.

Re: Argo (Dir: Ben Affleck)

The part that bothered me is how all of the hostages were released after 440+ days of captivity. Granted, it's a tough thing to go through, but the 6 Americans would have most likely been held captive and released eventually. Some how this fact made me discredit the decision to extract the hostages in a such bold attempt.

But in the middle of the crisis how could they possible know what the ultimate outcome would be? All they knew was that they were in extreme danger remaining in the country.

Are you serious? Like they could see into the future and know that thr hostages would get released?
