HAHA True. I'm quite suprised this movie isn't being ripped apart like a Catwoman thread. Yes, the movie was that bad.
Bullshit. The Chronicles of Riddick felt more like a bad (but watchable) fantasy/sci-fi/action film from the '80s (think Krull and the like) whereas Catwoman was just a total piece of crap.

Exactly. And I'd rather watch The Chronicles of Riddick again than say watch these following 2004 gems again:

Alien Vs. Predator
Along Came Polly
Battle Royale II
Clearing, The
Danny Deckchair
Envy
I, Robot
Lost Skeleton of Cadavra, The
Open Water
Prince and Me, The
Resident Evil: Apocalypse
Shark Tale
Soul Plane
Starsky and Hutch
Stepford Wives, The
Taking Lives
Van Helsing
Wicker Park

I never saw Riddick in the theater, but I might buy the DVD as a blind buy. Actually, I might get both Riddick and Pitch Black, I haven't seen that, either.

I sort of liked the trailer when I saw it before ROTK... it did sort of remind of those 80s sci-fi/fantasy things like Kull, Conan, and Dune. Also, kind of 70s Heavy Metal magazine-ish. At the time, I didn't realize it was a "Pitch Black" sequel, and in fact wondered why they would title a movie "The Chronicles of Riddick." Seemed like kind of a lame title.

You speak THE TRUTH !!!! And most of those probably will get sequels, what makes Riddick any different? I'll be buying this DVD, hell yeah. It was good in that 80's Flash Gordon sort of way, minus the Queen soundtrack. Vin Diesel is like the new AHnold Swartzenegger... big dumb charismatic fun!

While I would agree with you on some of those, was it really neccessary to bring up Lost Skeleton of Cadavra? I mean, Riddick had a $100+ Million budget, whereas Skeleton was shot for under $100 Thousand in two weeks on MiniDV cameras for crying out out loud! It barely even got a theatrical release. Plus it was way more entertaining than Riddick, so your argument is moot anyway.

I don't get all the disdain for I, Robot on this forum. Up until the Incredibles, this and Spiderman 2 were the most enjoyable movies I have seen this year. I thought it was a well made movie. Had me on the edge of my seat through the whole thing. One of the only Will Smith movies I enjoy. Alex Proyas did an excellent job.

Alex Proyas did an excellent job.
I, Robot lost almost all the faith I had in Proyas. The man who did The Crow, Dark City, and Garage Days turned out a fuckin' terrible playing it safe PG-13 action film; but I want to put all the blame on a specific Oscar winning screenwriter who wrote the film.

It barely even got a theatrical release.
Lost Skeleton had a very (limited) release. Prints circulated from city to city over a majority of the spring/summer instead of Sony making a few hundred prints. That and Mr. Scott Shelton agrees with me (and we don't agree on anything) that Lost Skeleton is easily the worst film of 2004.

It was good in that 80's Flash Gordon sort of way, minus the Queen soundtrack.
If Riddick had a Queen soundtrack, I would've liked it way more. That's the only reason I enjoy Flash Gordon... then again, I only enjoy Xanadu for the ELO soundtrack.

Here's an interview with Diesel where he talks about the unrated cut. He sounds like a dedicated guy to the franchise, and I like the part where he seems very willing to go with lower budgets, darker material, so on. Anyway...good interview.

Excellent. That sounds much better.

The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra was hilarious. It was supposed to be bad - so bad it was great.

here is another Unrated Director's Cut review:
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/dvdre...ws.php?id=7193

We can expect the Riddick story to continue in some form or another (movie, animated, or video game).

I just saw the film for the first time yesterday. I watched the director's cut, and though I didn't know at the time which scenes were special to that version, there were many, many that felt completely out of place and unnecessary.

After reading about the changes made to the director's cut from the review linked to by fryinpan1, I can't see how the longer cut is anything but an attempt to squeeze a few extra bucks out of a lackluster sequel that deserved to flop. Riddick's flashback scenes are especially embarrassing, but just wait until you see that amazing moment of character development when that female merc writhes over Riddick's torso when everybody else is asleep. Wow - would I just love to come upon David Twohy in a pub one day.

I know it's just one site, but DVDEMPIRE.COM Is a big dvd site, and Riddick uncut is number 1 on pre-orders, should be a cool sign for the sales.

Riddick threatical cut is nowhere to be seen in the top ten chart.

Amazon.com Sales Rank in DVD: #22

I think the poor reviews caused people to skip the theatrical release and just wait for the DVD.

David Twohy, with the exception of The Chronicles of Riddick, is a very talented man. Pitch Black, Below, and The Arrival are all good movies; just that The Chronicles of Riddick is not.

Seems like alot of us didn't see it at the theatres. While I thought Pitch Black was great I'm among those who never made it to see this movie, partly because of the horrible press it received and partly because it didn't play long in my area at all. I will be getting this tomorrow though because I thought the trailers were interesting and I like the character.

I watched the Chronicles of Riddick DVD last night (the transfer is great). I enjoyed the movie more the second time around. I listened to some of the commentary and David Twohy explains most of the story in better detail. Hopefully, Riddick 3 will get the green light.

Riddick 2. Pitch Black stands on its own. Sorta the Hobbit to the Riddick trilogy.

Even though I am a big fan of Pitch Black I didn't get around to seeing Riddick the theater. I heard a lot of negative reviews, but after getting the DVD I was pleasantly surprised. I am a big sci-fi fan, so maybe that's why I liked it. I thought the special effects was great. The story was okay, I think Twohy was trying to hard to make it epic, adding a lot of stuff to the storyline that was really need (IMO)

I read somewhere that Twohy wanted to make The Chronicle of Riddick the first in a series of three film (not including Pitch Black). If the first was successful they would make two more back-to-back. After the way Riddick ended I would be interested to see how the story progressed.

Bought mine yesterday, my Best Buy was almost sold out of them.
Watched it last night, I liked it even better the second time. Here's hoping for a 3rd one.

I agree! That's precisely my point. You know, "Why, David?"
