The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014, Webb) S: Foxx and Friends

'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' Gets a 2014 Release Date
Even though the new "Spider-Man" reboot doesn't hit theaters until next July 2012, a sequel is already in the works.
2:11 PM 8/5/2011 by Gregg Kilday

Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man won't hit theaters until July 3, 2012, but the studio is already mapping out plans for a sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Friday, the studio penciled in a release date for the second film in the rebooted franchise, putting a marker down on May 2, 2014.

The new, revamped Spider-Man, directed by Marc Webb, stars Andrew Garfield in the iconic role of Peter Parker and his web-slinging alter-ego Spider-Man.

The studio has already lined up James Vanderbilt, who has worked on the screenplay for the new film, to begin work on its sequel.

Don't read if you don't want to know about TASM1 spoilers:
Spoiler:
The ending to The Amazing Spider-Man has me thinking either the Green Goblin or Proto-Goblin.
Spoiler:
Supposedly, while Van Adder "dies", it is not clear. And there is someone in the shadows that comes out in the end and talks to Connors regarding Peter Parker. Connors says to leave him alone. But the figure says they have other plans for him.

I read your headline and all I can visualize is Spider-Man on a stage, dancing with jazz hands and singing "Tasm!"

'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' is scheduled for May 2, 2014.

Sony Pictures has tapped Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci to work on the screenplay for "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," which they will also exec produce. James Vanderbilt wrote the first draft of the script.

"The Amazing Spider-Man" is set to open on July 3, while its sequel is skedded for May 2, 2014. Production on the sequel is tentatively skedded to start in the first quarter of 2013.

"Alex and Bob have a unique ability to write great characters and spectacular action that makes them pitch perfect for 'Spider-Man,' " said producer Matt Tolmach. "They have an exciting take on the franchise."

"It's a thrill to have Alex and Bob put their stamp on this franchise that we all love so well," said producer Avi Arad. "They have an innate understanding of what makes Peter Parker not just a superhero but a hero for all of us."

Kurtzman and Orci said in a joint statement, "We grew up as huge 'Spider-Man' fans so, to us, the opportunity to work on this film is akin to being handed the Holy Grail. We love the direction Sony and the filmmakers are taking the Peter Parker/Spider-Man mythology."

Well...is that better than the guys who have stayed on from Raimi's era and anyone who was involved on the uh...first....uh..The Amazing Spider-Man's script? If anything they can make it fun. Just depends on the director..and you know...still seeing the one before it too.

Electro, Mysterious are my favorites and I doubt it will ever happen would love to see at least one of them in a movie.
Hobgoblin was much more Intersting a villain then Green Goblin too.

Green Goblin was always better because of the personal connections between the Osborns and Peter.

Hobgoblin started out good, but they dragged out the mystery of his identity far too long. In the end, it wasn't even the same writer who revealed it and the identity was changed to someone who made absolutely no sense at all of being the Hobgoblin. Thankfully, it was eventually fixed... a decade later...

I agree on Mysterio though. Bad fishbowl design aside, his illusions would make for some great special effects in a movie. Personally, I always wanted them to do a seven part Spider-Man movie series. The first six movies with one villain each (Doc Ock, Sandman, Vulture, Mysterio, Electro, and Kraven) and then the seventh movie with them all teaming up as the Sinister Six.

Somewhat unrelated. In the comics, who was the first super villain that Spidey faced?

Chameleon.

EDIT: See that was answered already.

If this movie doesn't do well are they still going to fast track a sequel?

Yep. There's also one page where Peter is incorrectly named Peter Palmer. It was fixed in later reprints.

That's nothing. The Hulk's full name is "Robert Bruce Banner"... why Robert? Well because Stan at one point accidentally referred to him as "Bob Banner" for several issues.

Why was his name David Banner in the TV show?

re: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014, Webb) S: Foxx and Friends

Because there was apparently a gay connotation to the name Bruce, studio execs.

I once owned a copy of Amazing issue #1. I found it being sold at a flea market and bought it for $40.
The book wasn't in great shape but it was a legit copy. Other then some minor wear and tear there was one major problem with the book. It was missing the first sheet that would be the first and last page under the cover. So if you open the book from the middle were he staples would be and lay it flat with the cover on top, the next sheet under that was gone.
If that page was in there I would say the book would have been easily worth thousands now.

Stupid hurricane Floyd.

Actually its unlikely that comic would be worth much. Even a 1.0 graded comic is considered "fair" condition and requires all pages to be there. A comic with missing pages would be rated less than 1.0 regardless of anything else.

This is the grading scale CGC uses: http://www.cgccomics.com/grading/grading.asp. A 1.0 condition comic can have chunks missing from a page, but not the entire page.
