yet I knew one adult/parent who actually took their six year old to see (if it's an R there's nothing stopping any parent to take their child to see it, regardless of objectionable content)

The first time I saw this movie was on VHS at my cousin's a long time ago. A few years back Starz and Encore started airing it often and I was surprised it was PG13. I had previously thought it was an R-rated movie.
