Giving Harry Potter another try tonight

Going to go see my first Harry Potter movie (Deathly Hallows 2) tonight. I watched most of the first DVD but found it to be very much like a kids movie--I didn't get the awesomeness. It actually seemed rather silly.

Later I tried to sit through a few of the sequel movies and got lost in many of the scenes that seemed to be heavy with references from the books, so I stopped watching them saying I'd read the books someday.

NOW, some good friends are taking me to see this last movie tonight.

Do I have a chance of liking it?

Any advice?

You obviously don't like the series... find something better to do.

You'll hate it. Find something else to do.

I guess I'm hoping it's possible to get into the movies without reading the books

Re: Giving Harry Potter another try tonight

If you haven't seen the entire series of films to this point, I'm not sure you're even going to understand everything going on in this film. It's like reading through the first few chapters of a book, then skipping everything and reading the last chapter. You might know how it ends, but you won't understand it or how they got there.

It seems like you just don't like the series, and should move on. There's nothing wrong with not liking it. Different strokes.

I feel bad for not liking it. Everyone else seems to. I was able to get into the awful prequel star wars movies (not love the movies, but enjoy the experience) because of the history and legacy of the Star Wars universe.

That's completely fine and understandable, but I don't know why you'd try again with the last movie (and a part 2 at that).

Bad guy with army vs Good guy with army. They fight. You're caught up.

Mea culpa: I haven't seen any of the HP movies, so I don't know how accurate this is, but...

You're going to watch the second half of a two-part movie, which is in itself the last part of a 7-part saga, and you expect lucidity? Vaya con pollo, mon frere!

Eh, my HP knowledge consists of listening to the first chapter of the third book on audio, watching the first movie once, and reading the spoilers for the coda to book 7. I'll probably watch the last one when it makes it to Netflix streaming for the sheer hell of it.

The movie is fantastic, but I can't imagine why you would go if you hadn't seen the other movies, or at least read synopsis of the first 6 and seen Part I. The local theater (just upgraded to full digital and 3D!!) had a double feature last night I went too. Awesome!

Don't feel bad. I saw the first one and thought meh its ok. Saw the 2nd and was like blah and then got pissed when I saw the trailer for the 3rd one. Not my cup of tea either.

The kid is like 40 already he should be a jedi master by now.

Most definitely. Is it possible to get into the last movie without having seen the other movies?

My wife and kids love HP. We have all the books and BDs. I just can't get into it. Maybe once the last BD is released I will watch them but right now I just have no desire.

Re: Giving Harry Potter another try tonight

Oh, and the first Harry Potter is a lot more of a kids movie/book than the others. They gradually get darker and more mature as the series progresses. There is some rather brutal stuff in the last one!

While i agree the first one is aimed at kids, the second one has adult themes. There are undertones of genocide, racism and Nazism.
