There's a few reviews trickling in at Rotten Tomatoes. Currently 80%.

The only major critic up there so far is THR's Todd McCarthy. His review is positive but not glowing. Still, unless the reviews that come out later this week take a nosedive, I will be going to see this.

Contagion was the first feature film shot on the Red Epic.

Thank you, come again.

I had this pegged as something to check out on DVD, but now that I learn that Soderbergh is directing I'm a lot more interested.

Why does it not shock me the Gwenny Paltrow is patient Zero for a devastating disease? She just seems perfect for the role.

Re: Contagion (Dir: Soderbergh) - Sept 9, 2011

Down to 72%, but Roeper is raving about it. Lemire's review is also quite positive.

The objections to is largely seem to be about, to borrow a phrase from Lemire's review, its "cool precision."

Such an entitled, pretentious bitch.

She sure seems that way. It matters because it's a vibe she gives off and it makes one not want to see her in stuff. But that's just my 2 cents.

I'm sure you have actors/actresses who you don't like for various reasons both real and imagined.

Everybody has actors they don't like, it's like me with Ben Foster because he constantly picks "bad ass" roles and can't pull them off to save his life.

43 reviews now and it's hanging at 77%. Ebert gave it 3 stars. Roeper also had a positive review.

Agreed. Especially since that describes the better of the two movies entitled "Crash".

Saw this today. I enjoyed it a lot. It's put together very well and sees the various story lines to satisfying ends. Laurence Fishburne and Jude Law stood out for me. Fishburne was great at keeping his shit together and Law played it smug yet likeable. I know this has inevitably been compared to other movies of this genre but it's easily the best one.

Up to 81% now. Warrior is slightly ahead, which I bet no one expected.

I thought it was very good, but not great. It stalls a bit 2/3 in, but picks up again. There are a few character strands that kind of die on the vine. Damon and Cotillard don't have much to work with. It's well acted, and really well directed (no surprise there) and the score is very much in the Finch/Reznor TSN vein. The last scene in the film and the accompanying title card is very effective and chilling.

3.5 out 5 stars

Che's premiere at the Ziegfeld (with Soderbergh in attendance) looked fantastic. This movie, at the local US suburban cineplex, looks good too. You shorting Red stock, or what? :)

This movie reminded me a lot more of Syriana than an action/outbreak movie. Really, really well done but I agree that it does sputter (just a bit) near the end. Much more realistic view of an event than, say, the overly dramatic scenes in I Am Legend.

Great cast, but a few of them felt wasted.

Is it just me or was Tobin Bell (Jigsaw in the Saw franchise) one of the pathologists cutting open the skull during the autopsy scene? It sure looked like him.

Good film, I enjoyed it. Don't see myself purchasing it on BD when it comes out though.

I agree and also with the "cool precision" comment. I can't say anything bad about it other than I have a detached feeling that keeps me from saying "wow" or "great achievement". I'm still at "hmmm, scary and interesting but..."

and what does the Epic do ??

I couldn't get pass the fact that Jude Law's teeth looked utterly gnarly.

and what actually happened at the end with Marion Cotillard's character that was a bit vague.

this movie is a bit odd for Warners to be giving the deluxe IMAX treatment - I thought the movie was a bit down and depressing - but in a good way.

The fucked up tooth was fake. My group of friends talked about that on the way out.

Spoiler:
I took it that Marion's character took off running to either find a phone or go back to the camp herself.

Saw it. Pretty much my sentiments. Solid movie from beginning to end, but nothing that made me say "wow". Except possibly:

Spoiler:
the end shots illustrating how it all started. Loved the fact that it was Paltrow's company the indirectly started everything.
