Re: Contagion (Dir: Soderbergh) - Sept 9, 2011
The current top-trending movie rentals and purchases were all released within the last few months with one notable exception: Contagion, the Gwyneth Paltrow-starring film from 2011 about a worldwide virus outbreak that starts in Hong Kong. |

But technically she was the single most important character in the movie next to the chef. ...
Plus there's just a lot of irony in her spreading the disease vs. all the stuff she shills in real life. I mean, Kate Winslet went to the CDC to research her role. |

I re-watched this over the weekend -- what a great way to stoke any subconscious coronavirus paranoia. Thanks to this movie, however, I can now talk authoritatively about "R-naughts" and "fomites."
I agree with others who felt as if the 100-minute run time was a little too rushed. |

This Buzzfeed is nice cheat if you haven't seen the film

I'm going back to Outbreak. At least I can spank it to Rene Russo while my organs are melting into pure liquid shit.

Lately my thoughts have been on the reality-techno-thriller The Hot Zone. Great book from the 1990’s. Not sure why it was never made into a movie.

If it's the book I'm thinking of, it was made into a TV mini series just this past year.

For maximum chills, they need to make Richard Preston's The Cobra Event into a movie. That outa scare the shit our of everyone good and proper. |

The FX mini-series they did of it was good, but not quite up to par as the book.

Wow. That was a pretty terrible article, but I must admit that I chuckled at Paltrow being referred to as "Goop."

Re: Contagion (Dir: Soderbergh) - Sept 9, 2011
I saw "Contagion" last night. I last saw it many years ago and remembered it being a lot more accurate than almost any other pandemic movie but I forgot how quickly the virus spread in the movie. Compared to COVID-19, the worldwide spread of the "Contagion" virus (I'll just call it the Goop virus ;) ) is unbelievably fast, basically infecting the world in about a month from first appearance. So that part stuck out to me as the most unrealistic part of the movie next to the far too quickly developed vaccine.
