I think this looks excellent and I'm willing to give it a go based on Soderbergh alone.

Isn't that redundant? By 1995 standards, Outbreak did have an A-list cast. Dustin Hoffman, Rene Russo, Morgan Freeman, Cuba Gooding Jr, Kevin Spacey, and Donald Sutherland is a pretty good lineup.

I'm a little puzzled why this isn't getting a release date in the more prestigious month of October or even November. Early September is the time for C-grade horror movies and the latest Jason Statham flick.

Sometimes good stuff comes out in September. "The Town" was a September release last year.

I wonder if the release date has anything to do with 9/11. I don't think it has to do with terrorism but moreso people coming together... I don't know maybe it's a stretch.

Re: Contagion (Dir: Soderbergh) - Sept 9, 2011

Our school had a free screening of this and its fucking great. Def going to be one of the ten nominees for best picture. I guess the best way to describe it is Crash meets Outbreak. Very well directed and really interesting how people panic in times of epidemic and people profit off their panicking. Standouts I guess would be Jude Law, Marion Collitard and Laurence Fishburne. It was weird to see Demetri Martin in a somewhat serious role. I will go on a limb and say best movie of the summer.

Yeah the characters are pretty much connected throughout the story.

Well the ones that live at least.

I thought the movie was pretty damn good. Didn't freak me out any, but good none the less. Lots of stuff I didn't see coming.

Columbiana screener tomorrow :P

Wow, so the epidemic causes people to have car accidents and then engage in sex with each other? That sounds almost too good to be true.

David Cronenberg must be making his "O" face.

it's obvious Soderbegh's staple to shoot this not on film, but the Red One camera photography looks and seems cheap.

why he shot Part 1 scope and Part II flat is just bizarre

I wonder how IMAX dmr'd a Red One capture and in turn upspeced it to IMAX resolution - that should look pretty interesting.

I hope this turns out great.
I don't know. I am a little worried that this is just another reboot with a different name. Heck we have had Outbreak, the Andromeda Strain, and Contagion (2001 on TV). We also had deadly zombie viruses in Resident Evil, the Walking Dead (TV), and a million other movies.

I am hoping it is good. We shall see.

Can't agree with that sentiment at all; that's basically saying any film of a specific genre is just a reboot with another name. The Andromeda Strain and Outbreak share an idea but are very different in story and premise.
