Re: Actors whose careers have fallen low and fast

I have seen every single one of Cruise's movies and I have not been disappointed by any of them except Far and Away and Lions for Lambs. His performances in all of the films including the two listed are all very good too.

He may not be the most versatile actor, but he's got a charisma that many other actors are missing.

Same with Travolta for a while. Usually it's just one role that sort of comes out of the blue that jumpstarts their career again. Obviously Travolta got Pulp Fiction. Rourke was still around but I guess Sin City was kind of his new big breakout role. Downey is kind of a tough one. Even though he had a lot of personal problems he worked consistently for pretty much his entire career. His movies were never big, box office successes though until I guess Iron Man. Apparently now he's an action star. I'm not really sure how or why he got that role, but he's set now.

I think that Downey's comeback is pretty remarkable as he is now the face of 2 action franchises--Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes. Funny you should mention Travolta as he has turned down a lot of great roles in the past. Richard Gere is probably thankful as he ended up starring in 4 hit films that Travolta passed on.

How are they douchebags? Because you don't like their politics?

Oh wait...you probably know them personally. Right?

I mean, what you just wrote makes absolutely no sense. You have got to literally be 12 years old or just a troll.

Yet another eloquent response from Dragon Tattoo.

Yeah, you're making a lot of sense.

His douchebaggery shines through in his performances? rotfl

Actor + Political beliefs that don't match your provincial worldview = "Douchebag"

Got it.

No I don't like any of them. Sue me. How does it affect you if I don't like Sean Penn?

I'm lucky, I have never let an actor's political beliefs affect my enjoyment of a film they are in. The funny thing is, i just found out recently that my 2 most disliked actors (who I have disliked for many years) are on the opposite side of the political spectrum from me...very strange.

Back to the subject...does anyone remember Craig Wasson?

It doesn't.

It just seemed like such a sweeping generalization on your part.

Peace.

What ever happened to Charlize Theron? She was the hottest thing in the early 2000's and still looks fantastic --- she was on Piers Morgan last week.

Once you guest on "Between Two Ferns" your box office mojo evaporates. Seems to have the opposite effect on the host, though.

When I said Cage has had a better career than both Penn and Cruise I was talking solely about the quality of the films he's appeared in. I think Nic Cage has has been in more good/great films than both Cruise and Penn.

What about the women from the 1990's:

Bridget Fonda

Mira Sorvino

Minnie Driver

Jennifer Jason Leigh
(more like 80's and 90's)

This is why Alec Baldwin is a douchebag.

Well, Gibson is easy to forget since he hasn't been in anything or directed anything since his incident. It's not like he's churning out straight to DVD quality stuff like Cage.

I felt her career was derailing when she was in Hancock. I didn't even know she was in the movie until I saw it. It's like she got no credit in the promotion. Aeon Flux didn't help her career, although I didn't think it was that bad. It was certainly light years ahead of Milla's Ultraviolet.

Re: Actors whose careers have fallen low and fast

I'd guess that they downplayed Theron's participation in "Hancock" due to wanting to surprise the audience with her role, and I was pretty surprised when I saw her in the film, and then how her character was integrated into the overall storyline.
