Revenge of the Fallen had a much steeper 61% drop in weekend 2. After Sunday, Moon will be about $30-$32 million shy of Fallen's pace.

Good hold. Clearly the better WOM (i.e. "It doesn't suck as much as the last one) will help this entry wind up north of $300m easily. I wonder if it can clear $350m?

I can't believe Zookeeper made a cent. I mean, I can, but it looks like a contender for worst movie of the decade. Did I really see an ad the other night where James takes a gorilla out to T.G.I.Friday's?

I thought that Horrible Bosses would totally take out Bad Teacher this week. I guess not.

The trailer for Zookeeper is just so awful that even that box office gross seems high to me.

:thumbsup: Even though I haven't even seen none of these films, glad to see lots of dough for the R-flicks. I was surprised the studios even released that many this summer.

With Harry Potter coming out next weekend, Cars 2 will fall off even farther. The film will be lucky to hit $170 million.

Who would have thought, a summer with a Pixar or Dreamworks Animated feature not even passing $170 million domestically.

Pixar & Disney really need to do an Incredibles 2. That would be huge at the box office. The movie is arguably more highly regarded now than when it first came out. A $300 Million U.S. total wouldn't surprise me in the least. Maybe $350 Milllion.

They just need to make sure that it's as good (or damned close) as the original.

Cars 2 just doesn't seem to have grabbed peoples' attentions (and if it has it just hasn't gotten them excited to see it).

That's news to me about Incredibles being more popular nowdays (Wasn't that big a fan of it, but still wouldn't mind a sequel) And at least the Cars franchise can coast on it's popularity at the upcoming Cars-Land in Anaheim :shrug:

The Incredibles seems to have a large number of people who have a rather positive view of the movie. I rarely read comments from anyone who doesn't like the movie. I've read a hell of a lot more negative comments about Cars than I have about The Incredibles.

Maybe that's anecdotal, but it does seem to be a highly loved movie (it is currently at #208 all time for user/fan ratings at IMDB with an 8.1/10 - Cars is sitting at 7.4/10 - and The Incredibles got a 97% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, too).

Cars took in $461,983,149 worldwide while The Incredibles did $631,442,092 worldwide in box office receipts (and Cars came out two years later, so it benefitted from a little ticket price inflation).

As a lot of people have been able to see The Incredibles on DVD or blu ray since the release of the movie (and the recent blu ray release was very successful for a catalog title) the number of people inclined to go see an Incredibles sequel would likely be a lot larger than that of Cars 2.

So why hasn't Pixar announced an Incredibles sequel? I have no idea.

Now, that interview was from 2004, but it does indicate that he is open to the idea of a sequel if he believes it will be as good as the original.

If you've been in a store recently, Cars 2 is raking in the dough with all the toys. Up to a few months ago, there were still Cars 1 toys being released so no matter how low the BO is, Disney is happy with their own version of Hot Wheels.

Yeah, Cars is a cash cow for Disney. The merchandising is probably worth 5x the domestic and foreign box office alone.

Yeah, I hadn't considered the merchandising aspect of it - although they could certainly market The Incredibles to the toy market (if Marvel and DC can do it as well as they do with their superheroes so can Disney).

I'm just surprised that Pixar hasn't made more of an effort to get The Incredibles 2 started given it's worldwide success and marketable characters. (And the love and respect given to the movie itself...)

Some studios do, since they may not distribute it outside of the US. Now, I doubt that's the case for Disney, but I'm just saying it's not cut and dry counting the entire global box office in every situation.

It appears that the Under-25 audience is going to films less than before. Adults seemily are driving the box office now.

Didn't they already do an INCREDIBLES 2? Yeah, they called it WATCHMEN.

(Just for the record, I didn't like INCREDIBLES at all. Nor WATCHMEN. And faded, over-the-hill superheroes would be right up my alley. I did like the Watchmen comic, though, and would love to see an animated version--done in that style!)

Well, It took 11+ yrs for TS3 and Monsters sequels, and in light of Cars 2's cold reception, it's probably best they wait long enough to get some perspective on what the best story would be. The nice thing about animated movies is that the actor's ages don't really matter. (or death in the case of Mr. Varney, rest his soul)

We might find ourselves with Cars 3 (or Toy Story 4) in another five years, but I suppose if that's the "studio picture" Pixar has to do every now and than that's somewhat understandable - I haven't seen Cars 2 but I'm sure it's not that bad. Best case scenario - maybe the least attended Pixar film will embolden Lasseter to never give in again - but it's not like they ever started out doing this just for the fun of it - it's a business like any other.
