Thor: The Dark World (11/8/13; D: Taylor; S: Hemsworth, Portman, et al.)
From Deadline:
Marvel Studios, which is in production on the Joss Whedon-directed The Avengers, is making a full commitment to Thor 2, with Chris Hemsworth reprising his role as the title hero. Marvel will need to hire a director for that film because, I've learned, Kenneth Branagh won't be returning as helmer. Branagh, who directed the first film and watched it gross $437 million worldwide with a few territories still playing out, will likely be involved in some producing capacity. His exit was "mutual and amicable," I'm told. That means a big job is out there that a lot of directors and their agents will be chasing over the upcoming holiday.
Disney will today finalize a release date for Thor 2, which will be released sometime in the summer, 2013. Disney and Marvel have already slotted the Robert Downey Jr-starrer Iron Man 3 to open May 3, 2013. So figure that Thor 2 will come later in the summer.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and predict we'll see this long before Green Lantern 2...and it'll be better.

Wonder what the dynamic will be if Brannagh stays on to produce; perhaps he'll suggest someone with his sensibilities or mentor a more action-oriented director.
Still would have liked to see Ant-Man or Dr. Strange greenlit and scheduled before a Thor sequel.

I hope the new director will change his GI Joe costume back to the comic book look original with a nice update.

The list of director's behind the well received comic book movies out there is pretty darn good.

The awfulness of GREEN LANTERN made me really realize how much THOR got very, very right. I'm in for more, as long as there's much less Earth/SHIELD idiocy and lots more Asgard/fantasy realm sequences.

I'm game for a Thor 2, but I heavily believe it was Branagh that sold those Asgard sequences so damn well. The script had some issues w/ Earth and those scenes looked...alright but Asgard was fucking great. So whomever gets the slot for the job..better make any and all Earth sequences not be simple or average. It was a heavily skewed film when you had Asgard and Earth...w/ Asgard being the much better.
What Thor needs is this. Which is his current costume...

I wish John Boorman was a few years younger. This is the type of material I would have liked to see him tackle.

Yeah, you're right. What person in their right mind would want all the fame and fortune from directing a big budget, major motion picture. That's crazy talk.
