Trying To Remember A Movie

I've been trying for a while to remember a movie I saw back in the 90's on HBO or Showtime. I believe the movie was made sometime in the 80's to mid 90's. For some reason, I only remember bit's and pieces, so what I recite of it may be a bit scattered. Though im hopeful that you movie moguls can help. Unfortunately, I can remember any of the actors in it. So here goes.

Its kind of a comedy of 3 older guys (mid 40's or so) have an idea to get some money by kidnapping someone for ransom.

They kidnap a young lady and take her up to a cabin and hide out there. While there, they find out the lady is the daughter of some Asian big shot guy (senator or something of that sort).

The guys forgot to bring food to the cabin in preparation and while the main guy goes out to get food, the other guys are fighting over a can of food they find in the cabinet, but the can only has one or two peas (or beans?)

In order to make their threat more serious, they decide to cut off the girls pinky and mail it to the father, but yet, they don't want to hurt her at all. So one of the guy's knows someone that can provide them with a finger. It is decided that the finger will be hidden behind a trash can (or trash bin). Unfortunately, when the guy goes to get the finger, it is either (I cant remember exactly) the finger of the wrong hand, or wrong color, or a male finger (or possibly all of the above).

Thats about all I can remember of the movie. Hopefully it provides enough detail for it to be found.

(Just to rule out ahead of time, its not Fargo, The Big White, Dead Mans Shoes or A Simple Plan)

Makes me think of this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097211/

Disorganized Crime, maybe?

It's definitely not The Big Hit. Nor is it Disorganized Crime either, unfortunately. The main kidnappers may actually be in their early to mid 50's. I know one of them may be in their early 60's even.

Re: Trying To Remember A Movie

The plot of this sounds like a movie called The Crew. It's from 2000, but it's the only movie I can think of with this kind of plot and characters.

Re: Trying To Remember A Movie

It sounds like it could be "Alone in the Woods" that's kind of a Home Alone ripoff, but has the central theme of "kidnapping a business tycoon's daughter"

This isn't the movie, but it sounds along the lines of Ruthless People.

Re: Trying To Remember A Movie

It's not The Crew or Ruthless People. Not Alone In The Wood's either as theres no kids in the movie. The tone of the movie would probably be closer to that of Disorganized Crime, except just a touch more lighthearted.

Just watched the trailer, and the plot is very, very similar except that the girl is around 17-23 rather than a kid. And it was 3 guys not 2 (though their ages would be comparable)

I would say the movie would have been made (guessing here) between 1987 and 1997.

Re: Trying To Remember A Movie

To narrow down the search, is it an American movie, or at least an English-language movie?

Yes, it's American. (Could have possibly been made in Canada, but no one in the movie had any foreign accents)

Re: Trying To Remember A Movie

Is it "Perpretrators of the Crime" with none-other than Tori Spelling?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0133146/

It matches some of the things you mentioned... Canadian film (low budget), a comedy about 3 guys kidnapping the daughter of a powerful guy, in a cabin, no food, and they need to cut the index finger for proof.

This review has a bit more info:

Interesting. Maybe I was wrong about the girl and her father being Asian (and why the hell would I not remember Tori Spelling and cancer man if they were in it?).

I did find a trailer for the movie, and its hard to say since the movie is fairly vague in my memory, but this seems like a very, very good possibility. Especially with the winter hat one of them wears (I do remember one character wearing that type of hat and one guy being bigger than the other and just about bald). Also with him on the phone talking about needing a finger and not caring about having a full set.

I would need to see this movie again to be able to say this was definitely it. But so far, I do think this is the one.

Thank you Coral and everyone else who helped with guesses and suggestions.

Gee, I didn't know that HBO or Showtime can show movies years before they are released.

Re: Trying To Remember A Movie

The whole movie was (and still is) a vague recollection to me, and I knew I saw it on cable before I fell ill back in 2000. And even though IMDB lists it as being a 2000 movie, most other sites show its from 1998.
