The Machine - Vin Diesel

Vin Diesel to Produce 'The Machine' for MGM

Diesel will also play “a human-like machine created in secrecy by the Pentagon as the world's first true ultimate weapon."

Hot off of Fast Five, Vin Diesel has come aboard to star and produce The Machine, an action comedy from MGM.

While MGM’s reputation around town is that of a remake factory, mining its library, Machine is an original project coming from Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant, the writers of Night at the Museum who also worked with Diesel on his action comedy The Pacifier.

According to MGM, Diesel will play “a human-like machine created in secrecy by the Pentagon as the world's first true ultimate weapon. Twenty years after the project was buried and decommissioned for reasons unknown, The Machine is discovered by a kid who befriends him. When the government learns it has been reactivated, the Machine must protect the family harboring him.

The project has no director but MGM says its eying a fall start.

Diesel will produce with his One Race Productions.

With the massive success of Fast Five -- $458 million worldwide and counting – many of the cast of the Universal movie are finding themselves back in the spotlight. Diesel’s acting career was scorching in the early 2000s with movies such as Fast and the Furious, XXX, Pitch Black and Pacifier, but had cooled down in the second half of the decade.

He is repped by CAA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

I'm glad that he is getting work! But where is Riddick? I hope he still makes another Riddick chapter.

Story sounds predictable slightly interesting...we'll see how I feel about once we know more.

that's the part that kills me. I can see stupid humor, cliche emotions, etc. It hurts my head.

Clearly it's an Americanized re-imagining of this:

I'd be more excited if it weren't for the comedy part.

As usual, what sounded like it might have been cool turns to shit once they mention bringing a kid in.

Re: The Machine - Vin Diesel

Will Peter Segal Control The Machine That Is Vin Diesel?

Peter Segal (Get Smart) is in talks to executive produce and direct The Machine for MGM.
In the film…

“…[Vin] Diesel stars as a human-like machine created in secrecy by the Pentagon as the world’s first true ultimate weapon. Two decades after the government halted the project for unknown reasons, a child finds and befriends The Machine.”

Segal is also attached to direct Grudge Match and produce (as well as possibly direct) Bleach at Warner Brothers. It looks like MGM may have to wait a bit before he can get started on Machine.
The Machine was written by Reno 911 creators Robert Ben Garrant and Thomas Lennon. Michael Ewing is producing with Marc Platt.
Segal’s other cinematic classics include Nutty Professor II: The Klumps, Anger Management and the remake of The Longest Yard.

Re: The Machine - Vin Diesel

Has Peter Segal done anything other than comedies? This doesn't sound up his alley. Maybe if Vin Diesel went back to making movies like The Pacifier, it'd fit Segal's resume more.

On a Vin Diesel note, what happened to his Hannibal the Conqueror movie? That's been in limbo for a very long time, now. I'd rather see that.

Re: The Machine - Vin Diesel

If it were an alien robot and not government created machine, it would sound very suspiciously like a live-action riff of THE IRON GIANT, which Diesel coincidentally voiced.
