I thought this one was meh. Not bad, not especially good. Jack felt like a bystander in his own movie, and Ian McShane was sleepwalking through the role of Blackbeard. For the "pirate who all other pirates fear" Blackbeard was not very threatening.
In all, this was very by the numbers. Nothing fresh, nothing exciting, nothing surprising. And Rob Marshall is no Gore Verbinski.

That is a little upsetting. Was really looking forward to it bringing back the magic of the incredibly fun first.

Nope. I would say it's not even as good as the second two, despite their flaws.

I like the series, although the sequels pale in comparison to the original, but they're still fairly entertaining. I'm glad part 4 is listed at 137 minutes. The sequels could have used some editing.
I'm planning to see this, but definitely not this weekend as I'm sure it's going to be jam packed. I expect another $100+ million opening.

This was to be expected! After the first two Pirates of the Caribbean, I felt the story, and the excitement was beginning to lose its spark. I had anticipated, the fourth sequel was not going to be improved, nor be like its predecessors, without even seeing it.

Well that's disappointing to hear. I thought they would have had something by simplifying it and dumping all the old characters.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (Marshall, 2011) — The Reviews Thread
It's a disappointing mess, taking the everything-in-a-blender approach to plotting that killed the last two films and managing to make it look pretty ugly at times. The daytime jungle looks beautiful; the nighttime scenes always look like a BBC production from the 1980s. Much like the 3D swords in the trailer, everything seems dull, pointless and artificial.
I liked the scene of the mermaid singing, which managed to create an interesting and beautiful tone, slowly filling it with menace. The rest feels like a TV show pilot, or a miniseries cut down to two-something hours while still trying to cram everything in.

I hope none of you take it personally that I don't plan to let your disappointment infect me. I'll still be seeing the film Friday, and considering how much more I enjoyed the previous sequels than you apparently did, it seems likely that I'll enjoy this one as well.

Aint it cool just slammed this move too.
Usually what happens though when people destroy these movies, I end up sort of liking them because I have absolutley no expectations.
Heck, I still kind of like Spider-Man 3 (ducks and covers)

Slammed is too kind a word, more like an evisceration.
Not surprised the movie sucks, but this review... wow.
