While we're talking about peeing on camera...

Actress Evan Rachel Wood said Kate Winslet dared her when she about to chicken out of her nude scene in Mildred Pierce. The 24-year-old played Winslet's daughter in the hit US drama series and she had a full-frontal nudity scene. Speaking on the Chelsea Lately show, she was asked if Winslet helped her prepare for the scene. She said: "She did, I was gonna chicken out, you know, and she pulled me aside and Kate's done everything, you know, so you look like a p**sy. "If you don't do it, she basically dares you. She's like: [In a British accent] 'I've done it all, alright, I've peed on camera and then had to make out with Harvey Keitel.' And I was like: 'Wow yeah that trumps my whole nude scene, I'm going to have to do this.'"
I always thought that that scene from "Holy Smoke" was faked. Looks interesting. I've never heard of this and the trailer doesn't give away much of anything. This just looks like one of those "gut punch" movies that leaves you shaken once you're done watching it. Part of it is the overdramatic music I'm sure, but this just seems like one of those movies that once it's over, the viewer just kind of feels broken ya know. It's not necessarily good or bad...it just leaves you feeling weird.

This film just blew me away, and I sure hope it doesn't get edited down. Fassbender was terrific, and like someone stated earlier, it did feel like a punch in the gut.
This movie is obviously not for children and it's really not for anyone that is easily offended either.
I just hope we get a commentary on the disc when it comes out. I was underwhelmed by Blue Valentine last year, but this certainly made up for it.
One critic offered up this brief synopsis, and I couldn't agree more:
Deeply unsettling and blisteringly intense, Steve McQueen's sophomore feature mines smart psychology and a magnificent, Oscar-worthy performance from Michael Fassbender for all they're worth.

I don't understand why your comparing this with Blue Valentine? I'm confused why you've connected the two in some way?

to Throwing Copper, one of the requests the director made at Toronto when it debut'd was that who ever bought the movie was not allowed to change one frame for censorship purposes
and trailer number 2 for Shame, where the Blue Valentine comparison can def. be made (Carey sings 'new york new york' through the trailer), and like the BV trailer, you don't really get a full 'plot summery'

Yep, that's what I was going for. I still need to revisit Blue Valentine again. Two actors I like a lot in that one.

On the basis of the greatness of Hunger alone, I am excited to see this. Couldn't care less one way or another about any of the nudity/sex, per se; it depends 100% on the way it's done, and if McQueen brings the artistry that he brought to Hunger, then I'm sure it will be brilliant.

Salt Lake on... January 20th.
...
Ugh.
-
Anyway - I actually wasn't much of a fan of Hunger (though the central performance was great), but I do think McQueen has a lot of potential and I'm quite excited to see this.

Did anyone see the red band trailer? I thought it was supposed to be posted on Facebook a few days ago.

saw it tonight. I think Fassbender has what it takes to be a big name actor to a point where he can headline a movie based on his name alone. He has that 'leading man look'. As far as the NC-17 rating, i can def. see why the MPAA had issues, there's one sequence in particular that pushes the envelope (if you've seen it, you know what scene i'm talking about.
As far as the comparisons to Blue Valentine, outside of them both not being 'the feel good movies of the year' and more character studies then 'plot' movies, i don't see any real similarity between the 2.
As one critic put it "its the unsexiest movie about sex possibly ever made' sums it up perfectly. If you don't mind the sex stuff, def. give the movie a shot, and i think Fassbender will get an oscar nomination
there's also a great and soulful cover of "New York New York" that Carey Mulligan sings that i hope gets released.
