such a boring game...looked good..but...the style of it couldn't hold the gameplay past the intro.

Quote: wait...I thought we were arguing the land on the 3 land pose? You never brought up the whole hand thing till later..so..we're JUST arguing about the placement of the arm and hand in the 3 land pose or...THAT specific pose? Your opening rant has failed bring up what we now know is your specific argument. *sigh*
Yes, I was referring to the pose in the original picture I posted. Maybe it was hard to make out in that small picture.

I agree with Ky-Fi. Way over used and cliche.

Yup, and I have never seen anyone jump off of something and land that way in "real" life, that would not be how you would land in almost any circumstance. Try jumping off of your roof and see if you can land as cool as the OP's picture.

It was done to death in HK movies probably because of all of wire work that maybe that pose helped them balance or the back hand was braced on the wire for balance. Directors think it looks cool that is why is is so overused just like turning you back and walking away from an explosion...when someone creates another "cool" stance it will be done to death as well.

The various film photos represent someone who has just landed from a leap (usually from a great height, distance or with some amount of force) with the arm thrown back for balance and to help get rid of inertia during the landing.

The football player photo is position of someone who just bent over from a standing position. Unless he leapt there from a sideline bench a yards away, he's not likely to assume the cliched three-point, arm-back position.

I tend to think that's completely ridiculous, but as I said, I'm open to being proved wrong by any photo/video evidence you have to prove your point.

"It's the hipster" way of landing. I can't stand it either. Another one that bothers me is when they do a windmill motion with their legs to get off the ground.

The Justice League cartoon used that landing pose A LOT. Usually with a slide across the floor.

I blame Anime, yes ANI-FUCKIN'-ME, for these corny ass poses. The Japanese seem to LOOOOVE these so-called badass poses.

I think the closest thing to real life action landing is parkour. After watching a few youtube videos I'm convinced this "landing that way for balance" stuff is just bullshit...

Re: My action movie rant.....
I always thought that people did that to avoid hitting their leg when they landed. In other words, in all of those pictures, the arm that is back in the air is on the same side as the leg that is not tucked under their body. Usually in landings like that, they land on their feet and then quickly fall forward to the ground and use one hand to help catch themselves. Often the hand that is used to touch the ground is on the same side of the body as the leg that is tucked under their body. With the other leg not under their body, but forward (or sometimes to the side), there is a good chance of hitting that leg with their other hand when they land. By keeping their hand behind them, there is little chance of hitting their outward leg. Also, by moving their arm backward, it keeps their torso away from their outward leg, to further reduce the chance of violently hitting their outstretched leg with their upper torso or face upon impact.
