"From director Steven Spielberg comes “War Horse,” an epic adventure for audiences of all ages. Set against a sweeping canvas of rural England and Europe during the First World War, “War Horse” begins with the remarkable friendship between a horse named Joey and a young man called Albert, who tames and trains him. When they are forcefully parted, the film follows the extraordinary journey of the horse as he moves through the war, changing and inspiring the lives of all those he meets—British cavalry, German soldiers, and a French farmer and his granddaughter—before the story reaches its emotional climax in the heart of No Man’s Land. The First World War is experienced through the journey of this horse—an odyssey of joy and sorrow, passionate friendship and high adventure. “War Horse” is one of the great stories of friendship and war—a successful book, it was turned into a hugely successful international theatrical hit that is arriving on Broadway next year. It now comes to screen in an epic adaptation by one of the great directors in film history."

I saw this play at the New London Theater last May and I must say that it was the best theater going experience of my life!
Within minutes you forget that the horses are puppets and the story was very well told and heart-breaking.
I was a bit mad when I heard that it was going to made into a feature film, but when I found out Spielberg had the rights to it and was directing it himself, my worry lessened.
I cannot wait to see this film.
By the way, the stage version will begin in NYC in the Fall. I highly recommend it!

I have a well-known aversion to the Horse Movie genre. Still, it's Spielberg and based on a credible source, so for this one I might actually break my rule of never bothering!

I really need to read this book cuz it's a VERY interesting concept. All (if not most) from the viewpoint and reaction of the horse..during WWI? Yeah, that's pretty damn interesing.
for those interested, Amazon has the book for $6.99.

Lemme guess: after 2 hours of mindless tedium in which no cliche is left unturned, the horse dies at the end, and all the easily-manipulated sheeple in the audience cry their widdle eyes out and come out saying what a touching, heartfelt, stirring movie they just experienced...
