avant garde opening titles

Hi guys,

I know this is a long shot, but a while back I saw some opening titles that I believe were black and white and described how what we were about to see wad highly experimental and/or avant-garde. I believe it was from an older film, possibly from the silent film era. I don't think I ever actually saw the film, but I think I might have seen it in either a documentary or in a film related book. I know this is vague, but does anybody have any clue what I'm talking about? Thanks for any help in advance.

bonny and clyde opening titles are a bunch of sepia tone'd photographs each one fading into the other.
