/\ I'm going to Boston on Sunday night.
I figured it would be good to start a Reviews Thread for Red State, since Smith is now touring the film, and this thread could provide a place to openly talk about the film far ahead of its release without spoiling the previous thread.
In addition to your thoughts on the film, please share your experience with the Q&A. For me, I’m looking forward to it since I’ve never seen Kevin Smith live, but the venue in Boston isn’t an actual movie theatre, so I’m not sure how they are going to project the film in a comedy club.
Regardless, it should be a pretty cool event.

/\ That's what I am hoping for! My wife took the next morning off from work, just in case it turns into a late night. The film starts at 8PM, so the Q&A should start at about 9:45ish.

Rockmjd23 - so did you actually see it or is this just more Smith bashing?
I'm really curious to see how he did with this one.

It's another seven months to release and there's already a review thread? Kind of jumping the gun a bit. I have to give the Smith credit as based on the teaser it looks like a serious horror movie and not a screwball comedy.
to Michael Parks. I would be willing to bet future promos will be hyping the presence of Melissa Leo since her Oscar win. No tour dates in FL.

Re: Red State (Smith, 2011) - The Reviews Thread
4/5 - I went to the Radio City show on Saturday night. I enjoyed the movie quite a bit. I won't post spoilers, as I'm sure I'm in the minority of people here that have seen it and I don't want to ruin anything. I will say a few things however: Michael Parks is unbelievably amazing in this movie. While extremely dark in tone, there are a few laughs here and there which are nice. Kevin Smith keeps you guessing...you think the movie is going one way, and then it goes another (and a few times at that). There were a few things here and there that didn't quite work for me, but overall it's very good and definitely worth checking out when it opens wide if you don't want to pay the extra money to see it on tour.

Spoiler:
That gives me a little more interest in seeing it in October, knowing it doesn't cop-out (no pun intended) like that.

Didn't ruin my poll as it is not mine. Didn't answer the question either. So I will just lump you into the category that you do get some sort of satisfaction voting zero stars in polls for things you have not even seen. No other way to explain it. Why vote on something you have not seen? The point of it is to gauge what other opinions are of the movie. Your zero star vote is of no value to anyone. It will be now that eveyone knows you always vote zero for some reason. So your opinion will automatically be discounted.

Re: Red State (Smith, 2011) - The Reviews Thread
Without a doubt I believe this is Smith’s best film. It is efficient, nuanced, and visceral. Smith’s script starts the viewer down one path, and confidently takes some really sharp turns in unexpected directions, each of which come off as a rewarding surprise.
Michael Parks is fantastic, but the film is populated by some really stellar supporting performances; in particular John Goodman, Melissa Leo, and Kerry Bishé.
I think this film is going to surprise many people when it is released. There is some humor peppered into the film, but it serves as needed levity during what is an overly somber and gruesome chain of events.
I absolutely recommend this film to anybody, regardless of your opinion of Kevin Smith’s previous films. If you like his work, you’ll appreciate the maturation and even recognize a little of the humor. If you’re not a fan of his work, it is still a hell of an experience, and wholly original.
