Sixteen Candles back on the big screen (AMC) - 2/13-2/14
AMC is bringing Sixteen Candles back to theaters for Valentines Day this year.
AMC Theatres, a leading theatrical exhibition and entertainment company, is proud to partner with Universal Pictures to offer guests the chance to see the hit romantic comedy SIXTEEN CANDLES for a limited time, exclusively in more than 150 theatres.
It’s a good idea, I’m sure plenty of people will head out to see it on Valentines Day. Especially since there aren’t many romantic offerings being released in February.

Thanks for posting this. I never would have known otherwise. This is quite possibly my favorite High School movie. And my favorite John Hughes film.

No poster at my theater
First time seeing it. Enjoyed it but felt like Anthony Michael Halls character was a little over the top. And i felt it was a little out of place to have Molly Ringwalds character to give away her panties. Seems like something she wouldn't do.
And
at titties in a pg movie

About 75 percent full at AMC Westgate in Phoenix. Am probably going back tomorrow night to see it at AMC Ahwatukee.

And as for F bombs, plenty of PGs that I've seen have had them. Aren't they like allowed to use it twice before it has to be an R or something like that?
I think PG-13 came out right after this movie.
Anyway, the theater was a lot less crowded than I'd have thought. In fact it was pretty bare. Not more than like 30 people or so I'd say. Kinda sucks. It's cool for them do stuff like this (overheard a couple HS kids say the same on the way out). Hope it continues. Pretty mixed ages. Some teens and 20-somethings, a few kids and some nostalgic 33-50 years olds it looked like.
Judging by reactions it sounds like at least a quarter had maybe never seen it before while a few seemed to have every last line memorized.
Anyway, yeah, less than you'd expect but then again they sure didn't advertise it much.
To be honest I had zero clue it was gonna be showing until this afternoon!
Spotted it by pure chance while looking up the times for another flick we were gonna catch. Did a double take at first, haha. Thought maybe I gone through a time warp or had just woken up from a really long and realistic dream or something hah.
Actually considering how little word got out about it and that it's a revival I guess it didn't do badly, but I bet it coulda done 3x as well with a little more word out. Heck, I'm sure I coulda gotten a group of us instead had i known.
They gave out free posters at the end at the theater I saw it at, for other 80's flicks too. Apparently they had Back to the Future this past fall and Airplane a few weeks ago. AMC shoulda advertised it or gotten a bit of national press. I had no clue.
Quite a trip though, damn. Pretty wild. Same mall theater that had it back in '84. Crazy shit. Man John Cusack was young in this one. Scary beyond belief that Molly Ringwald must be like early 40's now (although, damn, checking out a photo of her just now from only two years ago and she easily looks like she could still pass for late twenties at worst).
Nice presentation of it on a giant three-story tall screen. Sounded like it had the original 80's stereo mix.

I bet it will do pretty well in major college towns even with the lack of advertising though.
I wonder if it will do better or worse tomorrow.

Wife and went to the show Sunday night and had a good time. Neither of us had seen the movie in it's entirety before, only bits and pieces on cable. I was surprised that the theatrical version felt so heavily edited. Still great though and I'm hoping AMC does more of this in the near future!
