I'm sure we'll go see this and probably like it. I like Wiig a lot and Sookie (Melissa McCarthy) stole every scene in the trailers that she was in. Her lines alone made me want to see this film.

I'm looking forward to this, which is not something I ever thought I'd say about a movie called Bridesmaids. That's because the title makes it sound like something where Kate Hudson sings into a hairbrush and pulls someone's hair.

Love Wiig!

Re: Bridesmaids (2011, Kristen Wiig/Judd Apatow)

saw this tonight. i don't remember an audience laughing so much in a theater as long as i can remember. some of wiig's scenes were incredibly funny. melissa mccarthy was great. i had tears in my eyes during some of her moments. this is being described as The Hangover with chicks... well, I enjoyed it MORE than The Hangover (and i really liked that movie).

I guess this is one of those movies where the trailers are deceiving, as from what i've seen, this doesn't seem like a must see, but its at 90% on RT

"Soup's done? No, it's not."

This looks pretty funny to me.

yeah, i wasn't convinced by the trailer. Actually I'm glad they didn't show too much in the 55 second trailer I watched.

Also just to note, some of the funniest moments in the movie could fly in a PG or PG-13 film. They do have some fun with raunchy moments, but they don't overdo it.

Heh, I didn't realize the big chick is "molly" from "mike and molly". I never watched "M&M" but I did like her on "Samantha Who?".

Having seen the movie last night, I'll say this much: I think maybe 25% of the dialogue in the two trailers actually made it into the movie. The scenes the lines are extracted from remain, but, seriously...this is probably the closest yet I've seen trailers come to not containing any content from the actual film. Not finding the trailers funny isn't a big deal.

mike & molly isn't a great show at all... but yeah, she was really funny in Samantha Who - sad to see that show go so quickly!

This is pretty typical for an Apatow produced flick - Anchorman anyone?

Slate's Dana Stevens pretty much loved it.

Seeing the trailer the 1st time it got my interest for the most part but damnit..it was Ellie Kemper that got my attention. Love her on The Office...but I'll always remember her as Blowjob Girl.

I had no interest in this initially, but previews have all but won me over. May check this out as well and as already mentioned, not surprised if this ends up being far better than The Hangover II.

Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy are getting a ridiculous amount of praise for the movie. Guess it isn't a huge surprise (they're both on current comedy shows) but it's kind of good to see them both getting some credit.

Re: Bridesmaids (2011, Kristen Wiig/Judd Apatow)

I am somewhat interested in this, but like all Apatow associated comedies, it has two detractors:

1) A rather lengthy runtime that everyone says is a bit excessive for the story being told and

2) Humor related to bodily functions (scatological, gastronomical, urological) that for some reason all adult comedies feel the need to have. It's like they think people are incapable of laughing unless they see something like this .

I though this movie was horrible. The two other people that I also watched it with also thought it was horrible. Were were all stumped that this movie is getting such good reviews. Maybe about 4-5 funny moments in the whole 125 minute movie.

Local girl makes good. Kristen Wiig is from Rochester and called in to one of the morning shows. Aside from Phillip Seymor Hoffman the others from Rochester have been d-listers like Robert Forster

But that's the movie they made. It's like saying, "I really want to see the new Transformers movie, but I don't understand why they have to include all the robots fighting." The movie you seem to want to see came out last week and was called "Something Borrowed." It's 20 minutes shorter and doesn't contain the bodily function humor you seem to find a detractor. It's also running 15% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes versus the 91% fresh Bridesmaids is currently sitting at, so clearly those elements are not making people enjoy Something Borrowed MORE.

For me personally (saw Bridesmaids at a midnight show last night), I never once thought it was too long. It's the best comedy I've seen in YEARS (yes, even better than The Hangover). In this case I'm compelled to quote Roger Ebert:
“No good movie is too long and no bad movie is short enough.”

You seem to misunderstand me. I am not saying the movie should be that way, I am just saying that it doesn't need the two elements I mentioned to be a good one.

Saw this tonight. Very funny, but I wouldn't come close to saying it was as funny as The Hangover.

Wiig's character was just so fucking depressing that it became hard to watch at times.

That is also a problem IMO. Sometimes if a character is extremely down and out, it's close to impossible to laugh, as you feel sorry for them the whole time.

Yeah, I almost have to watch a film like this in the theater because at home I will get often get uncomfortable and shut it off.
