Re: Vote for your favorite Best Picture nominee (2011 Oscars)
Apologies to Kings Speech and True Grit since I have yet to see them but my list is:
Social Network
The Fighter
Black Swan
Inception
Toy Story 3
127 Hours
Winter's Bone
The Kids Are Allright
I'm a big fan of the top 3 movies listed. Social Network was easily the best, The Fighter is the best feel good movie of the year and Black Swan was perfectly haunting.
Inception, Toy Story 3 and 127 Hours were solid but somewhat flawed movies.
And outside of some good performances, I didn't like Winter's Bone or The Kids are Allright very much. I wouldn't have nominated either for best picture.

Since everybody loves lists (I'd say 3.5 is the point where I'd feel good recommend a movie to others outside of "It's alright.")
1. The Social Network -- 4.5 / 5
2. True Grit -- 4 / 5
3. The King's Speech -- 4 / 5
4. Inception -- 4 / 5
5. Black Swan -- 3.5 / 5
6. The Fighter -- 3.5 / 5
7. Winter's Bone -- 3.5 / 5
8. The Kids Are All Right -- 3.5 / 5
9. 127 Hours -- 3.5 / 5
10. Toy Story 3 -- 3 / 5

Re: Vote for your favorite Best Picture nominee (2011 Oscars)
I'm probably the last person that would be expected to pick an animated film, but I've gotta say that I felt Toy Story 3 was the most emotionally-resonant and rewatchable film of the nominees I've seen.
I loved Black Swan, but I can only take so much ballet in a movie. The Social Network had fantastic writing, and it should win for screenplay (and score), but if it didn't have a script that sharp I don't think it would've been anything special. Inception was great fun, but I never thought it deserved any awards, aside from editing. Still haven't seen King's Speech, True Grit, 127 Hours, Winter's Bone, Fighter or Kids.

its a chilling film, and knowing places like where the film is set makes it all the more eerie.
my vote is for The Social Network though.

I guess growing up and visiting places like that in my younger days took the impact out of it. There's nothing inherently eerie about the Ozarks to me, just a lot of trailer trash. Though there is certainly a lot of truth behind stories like it, unfortunately, a little too much truth.

Nope. I'm an idiot. Completely missed it. For some reason all the talk of Nolan not getting a Best Director's nomination made me think that Inception wasn't nominated either.

I voted "Black Swan" with "The King's Speech" a close second.

Seen everything except Winter's Bone (which I actually started to watch). Will vote once I've seen it.

It's a mediocre film not worthy of the praise people are giving it. Some interesting performances, yes, but nothing that merits an Oscar nomination. Tell me why this crap deserves nominations, but Robert Duvall was passed over? Get Low is a far better film than Winter's Bone. For that matter, so was Flipped. Even Hot Tub Time Machine was better!

Lets see, Solid authentic-feeling acting, great sets/backdrops, great editing, authentic dialogue, great direction and cinematography... hope that helped you. 'Get Low' was a great film too but did drag some and although I really liked it, it wasn't Winters Bone.
So,
Winters Bone fairly easily for me.
It doesn't have any real chance so I hope my number 2 film wins 'The Kings Speech'.

I've seen all 10 and predict The King's Speech to win the Oscar. Should it win? I say yes.

Saw The King's Speech today. I'd change my vote now. That is my #1.
(only one I haven't seen in the list is 127 Hours)

Of what I've seen -- Inception, King's Speech, Social Network and True Grit, all of which were very good -- I'd have to barely go with True Grit above Social Network, because I'm a whore for a great Western.
