They went to that particular time because Spock wanted a bitchin' Flock of Seagulls t-shirt.

Because we would not have gotten to hear Kirk say "double dumb-ass on you!" in any other time period.

Re: Question about Star Trek IV

It was their unknown destiny to transport Catherine Hicks and her hot rack back to their century.

If you like Catherine Hicks, check her out in Peggy Sue Got Married; she's got the great bobby socks look going.

I like to think of her as the mother of all those kids on 7th Heaven --a fertile little pussycat that obviously loves to GIT IT AWN.

That was a hilarious part. Her excuse to go with them was that nobody in the future knew how to take care of the whales. What does she do when she gets there? Gets assigned to a starship & leaves Earth. F the whales. They can take care of themselves! They're going to go extinct anyways again since there is only 1 breeding pair. Maybe a few generations more if they inbreed, but they're not long for the world.

^ I'm sure cloning is quite easily performed in the 23rd century.

Re: Question about Star Trek IV

I'm pretty sure Hicks was assigned to an ocean going vessel. Something like the Federations version of the Coast Guard. Remember, she shows Kirk some sort of badge thing, which looks nothing like a Starfleet badge.

Re: Question about Star Trek IV

I loved this movie and the only thing that bothered me was that the aquarium was just on the other side of the bridge. In reality it's almost a 2 hour drive south from SF.

And not only that, but the actual outdoors whale tank shots were matte paintings/split framed against the shallow reefs at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Well, it was time for a colorful metaphor.
