Original Film Posters

Out of the wake of the old film posters thread having most of the talk be about screenprints from Mondo and the like, comes the thread for original film art. 1sheets, lobby cards, subway posters, daysheets. Theatrical or video release. You get the idea.

Post your collections, newest pickups, stuff you wished you had etc...

Anyone know of a good website for foreign film posters?

SethDLH 01-12-11 11:34 PM

Re: Original Film Posters

emovieposter.com is a site i lurk regularly. Its an auction based website, that is very reputable. I've got one coming from them now actually. They have all sorts of different auctions every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday.

Just don't bid against me ;)

Re: Original Film Posters

Looks like the stuff I enjoy are the ones getting all the bids... I wonder if I really need a Brain Damage poster...

Just got 2 different original 1973 Man From Deep River 1sheets, will post pics when they arrive. Pretty excited about these. I'm a huge fan of the cannibal films of the 70s and 80s. I will want to trade/sell one of them as I didn't plan on getting both. PM if you want details.

Lets see those collections!

Try movieposters.ha.com

It's an auction site.

Just got this in today. Immediately went into a protective sleeve/backing until I get a frame. Please excuse the flash.

Interesting site, I am building a want list for the next few weeks so I can stop lurking it every other day.

Was bidding on this but the price went past what I am willing to pay for a movie I have never seen:

What did that end up going for? I was looking at it and thought it was cool, but had never heard of it let alone seen it.

Re: Original Film Posters

$20+$10 shipping, I was only down to $11+$10 shipping

Re: Original Film Posters

Is that last one from the October Horror Movie Challenge? I got one of those too but mine is a bit crushed in the middle. But for free you can't really complain.

That plastic/cardboard holder you have there, are they available for cheap in bulk?

SethDLH 01-16-11 10:10 PM

Re: Original Film Posters

Yea its from the challenge, mine is rough around the edges, but still doesn't look bad and is a cool item (plus i love troma stuff haha). And like you said, can't complain for free.

The sleeves/backings were bought from bagsunlimited.com, not too expensive. I don't remember exact prices but I got a pack of 25 sleeves (pretty sure it was the lowest amount available) and 5 backings. Both are poster safe and won't hurt it in the long run. Good solution for shorter term storage and still being able to have them out to look at/display

Yeah I was that but I hate to tease myself with anything over $50

Re: Original Film Posters

I was outbid on these. Not too worried as I had low max bids. Inferno stuff isn't too hard to find and I'm not in love with the Contamination poster but if I could get it for the price I would have enjoyed it.

Re: Original Film Posters

I worked at a movie theater in the late 90's and I have a small collection- all of which are packed away in tubes right now. From memory:

The Arrival
Eyes Wide Shut
Men In Black
Star Wars Trilogy: Special Edition Teaser
Clear and Present Danger
Fight Club
Fight Club: Theatrical Vinyl Banner
The 6th Sense: Theatrical Vinyl Banner
Bringing Out The Dead
The Thin Red Line

That's all I can remember off hand... there's probably about 10 or so more. Unfortunately I don't any vintage one sheets though.

Re: Original Film Posters

Unpack them and take pics! :)

Re: Original Film Posters

I may do that, although it'll take a week or so. This winter storm is preventing me from going home for a few days now. Hmm... I do have a picture of my fight club banner here, although it's a picture at my old apartment.

Re: Original Film Posters

have a few, my pics are in the other thread. I have others but I don't have the wall space to hang them so it just seems kind of stupid to collect them to have sit folded or rolled up. I know people who do that with a ton of posters and it seems kind of pointless. Also collect concert posters but have everything I wanted so collection complete. Not related to movie art but buying original paintings has been way more exciting (and expensive) for me lately.

So jealous of those classic horror/sci-fi stuff. Especially The Creature and Godzilla stuff. All original stuff?

Re: Original Film Posters

I was cleaning out my coat closet last night and pulled out about a dozen poster tubes containing my entire collection. I decided it was as good a time as any take them out and look at them. I ended up consolidating everything into six tubes: theatrical one-sheets (including reprints), Star Wars posters, commercial prints, art prints and two tubes of mini posters. About 50 regular posters and 100 mini posters. -eek-

I've had all my regular posters displayed at one time or another (mostly fantasy stuff like LOTR and Harry Potter), but I've stopped buying unless it's something really special. I still love what I have stored away, though. Stuff like the UPN promo poster for the Buffy Musical episode, a few vintage Drew Struzan posters (Return to Oz, Caravan of Courage), Supergirl one-sheet, Dark Crystal theatrical poster from Germany, Attack of the Clones IMAX (gotta get that one professionally framed someday).

Also, I had no idea I had collected so many promo posters over the years. I just kept picking them up at the multiplex and would toss them into this giant cardboard tube. I never really pulled them out until last night. There was some cool stuff I forgot I had, like The Ring, Van Helsing and Hustle and Flow. There was also crap like The Grudge 2 and Little Man in there. :)
