:rip: Just re-watched The Town -- he did a good job in this (as with everything he was in).

One of the few actors you could always count on to deliver a rock solid performance every single time.

Yet you can't even remember his name: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/10564036-post16.html

Met him in '97 in D.C. just walking the streets on my way to get lunch. He was in town for the premiere of The Lost World at the Uptown. Extremely down-to-earth and classy guy. I may give Romeo and Juliet or The Usual Suspects a spin tonight.

RIP, Kobayashi.

Hey, you can always make do with reruns of The Drew Carey Show and Everybody Loves Raymond.

Great actor. He will be missed. I read at some point that he turned down Scorsese for "Gangs of New York" and always regretted it.

His performance in "In the Name of the Father" is widely regarded as his best but he was equally brilliant as Danny in "Brassed Off", a film that was wrongly marketed as a light British comedy. I highly recommend it.

Loved him. So many fantastic performances. I first noticed him in Alien 3. He will be missed.

I was a huge fan and tremendously happy to see him in two very high profile films. The biggest shock is that he was only 64.

Re: Pete Postlethwaite dead

I first noticed Pete, like most other people, in In the Name of the Father. Until then he'd been a well-liked actor who'd show up in a lot of BBC stuff and in small roles in UK-shot films. It's understandable; that face of his made a monologue of its own when he came on screen. Such character.

In Father, he plays Guiseppe Conlon, father of accused "Guildford Four" pub bomber Gerry Conlon. Guiseppe is also convicted, for conspiracy to murder. Both men were innocent. The film takes a lot of dramatic license, creating people, moving events around and, most obviously, putting Gerry and Guiseppe in the same cell in the same prison - which no prison would be likely to do. At any rate, director Jim Sheridan knew what would work for a film, and Postlethwaite's scenes with Daniel Day-Lewis are masterclasses in acting.

Think about how good Day-Lewis is. Now think of how good the guy is who can come in and steal the scene from under him with barely more than a stare.

Rest in peace, Pete. You did well.

Dammit, no! He's one of my all-time favorite actors... :(

He was amazing in everything. Even the awful Jurasic Park:Lost World. He was awsome in that. It's worth seeing just to watch him.

Yeah...he had a great presence. I always remember him as Kobayashi. damn..he's gone. He never got the great amount of screentime that I'd want out of him. We needed more of him...

fuck....

He was also quite memorable in Alien 3.

First movie I think of when I think of him. Although, even more deserving of the Oscar that year was Ray Fienes for Schlinder's List. That is the ultimate year that proves the Oscars were meaningless, & I haven't followed them since. Those 2 performances in the same category & Tommy Lee Jones wins it for playing the exact same character & the exact same peformance he gives in every single movie he is in.

Postlethwaite was one of the greatest pure delivers of dialogue ever.

To be fair only after Jones won it for playing Gerard. He had given many versatile and terrific, overlooked performances decades before he won for The Fugitive.
