The Wizard of Oz question

Hey guys, I have had an issue with something about the Wizard of Oz since the restored DVD came out. I grew up watching the movie on VHS for years, in the version I always saw, the witch's guards had blue faces. When WB restored the film and came out on DVD the witch's guards had green faces. Now I cannot find anything about this change at all on any website.

Do you guys remember this? I just found it really jarring when I first saw the restoration a few years back but I never got around to posting the question until now.

It wasn't color-corrected and restored for the VHS release would be my guess. Although, sometimes color schemes get re-imagined when films are restored. Lot of complaints over Peter Pan for example.

They were always green faced (like the witch only less vivid) in my childhood TV viewing memories of watching OZ in the sixties.

I think your TV set probably needed some color adjustment.

Now... the flying monkeys had blue faces. Pale blue, but definitely blue.

I'll have to try and track down my old VHS tape, it was definitely not a TV issue.

Did you know that Captain Kirk's uniform was green in real life, but appeared as gold on the TV broadcasts? True story.

Then it was VHS issue.

The guards were always green faced whenever I watched it as a kid in the 60s.

Ah, but that's his dress uniform, which was apparently made from a different fabric that did show as green. The standard uniform was essentially the same color, but made of a material that showed as gold in technicolor.

And that, my friends, is more than you ever wanted to know about Captain Kirk's uniform.
