so.....guess Pixar is doing a Direct to DVD thing...*shaking head*...I don't want to believe this is real.

via cinemablend....

Well, that was far better than I was expecting. Maybe I'm just not a car person. Sure I had Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars as a kid like everyone else, but I never had that car worship that so many other kids seem to get. Now airplanes, on the other hand, I liked planes a lot. Still kinda do.

Always enjoyed that one myself, although I liked One Cab's Family better.
That would be it, great little short. I need to find a Tex Avery DVD set...

Well, that description settles it. It'll be a Netflix blu-ray rental just for curiosity's sake. First Pixar movie since Toy Story 2 that I won't see in a theater.

you didn't see TS2 in a theater...for some other reason beyond just not going?

Re: Cars 2 (Pixar, Summer 2011)

I can't recall if I saw TS2 in a theater or not. I know I watched it 62,038 times on DVD when my daughter was a toddler though. But I know it was around this time when I recognized the brilliance of Pixar or what was once known as Pixar.

same here, maybe that's why I didn't care for the first Cars and seeing the sequel seems so low on the totem pole for me - though I will take my 7-year old nephew since he a 'Cars' fan - and it will give an excuse to see it since I'm a Pixar junkie anyway.

Re: Cars 2 (Pixar, Summer 2011)

alright....these 2 clips have sold me on the film. I was going to see it either way (free ticket) but I needed more meat beyond just Mater clips...I'm comfortable w/ this film now. I just needed to see what an integration of Mater and Spy film was like...and these 2 clips have convinced me.

Based on those clips, if I didn't know this was from Pixar, I would have zero interest. This one will definitely be a rental.

So Lightning McQueen isn't the main character in this one?

Fairly sure that scene exists solely to provide four or five new toy opportunities to exploit in the span of 45 seconds. This is really starting to look bad to me, and I actually came to enjoy Mater's Tall Tales thanks to my son's repeated viewings. Honestly, it makes me feel like checking out A Man Called Flintstone for the first time in twenty years and see how I like it now.

Re: Cars 2 (Pixar, Summer 2011)

The regular critics seem to dig it, the Pixar fanboys hate it. I don't know where I lie with that as I'm pretty critical of Pixar in general.

Also, it's at 71%.

Re: Cars 2 (Pixar, Summer 2011)

Personally, Cars and Crapatouille broke the Pixar Streak for me. This seems to be more of the same. Mater's probably one of the worst things that's come out of the Pixar. Pass.

Shit, I'll take Cars and Ratatouille over Wall-E and A Bug's Life any day.

Re: Cars 2 (Pixar, Summer 2011)

Saw 20 mins of Ratatouille...from the start till the 20 mins...I liked it fine. Does it take a huge fall somewhere after that? Seemed to be fine...kind of reminded of some films from the 60s.

I also liked Wall-E and Bug's Life.

Nope, it actually one of my favorite Pixar movies, it doesn't follow the Pixar template nearly as much as other movies.

No, Ratatouille is one of the better Pixar films. I would say Pixar's streak is over with this film, at least in my mind.

Ratatouille is fantastic, it's pretty much the antithesis of Cars.

Oh, conservatives beware, Big Oil is the villain in this film. Yes, there are actually some people pissed about it.

Just noticed the 59% (10 positive 7 negative) & I'm wondering if this is the first time a Pixar film has EVER had (even temporarily) a rotten rating. They usually start with about 50-100 positive reviews before Armond White gets busy.
