I enjoyed the first but was exopecting the worst when I heard there was to be a sequel. I'm surprised to say that the trailer makes it look like fun.

Good god...this trailer just doesn't jive w/ me. The more I see....the worse it becomes for me. Too much Mater.

I have liked all the Pixar films Except Cars which I think is terrible. I don't get the interest in this at all.

Pixar usually does a great job of melding a kids movie into a film that has substance but I think Cars may appeal more to the kids element as I didn't find anything about it that was great.

AICN had one of their guys go to Pixar recently and he got to see a bunch of new footage and the descriptions have me hopeful. I wasn't totally in love with the first one (though it grows on me over time), but it really sounds like a different kind of story for the sequel. I'm allowing myself get a little hopeful.

I actually admired Cars more than many Pixar movies -- it didn't follow the exact template that a majority of their movies (majority being all except the two directed by Brad Bird) do and it was kind of a breath of fresh air. It also had a lot of emphasis on just enjoying the beauty of the things around you.

Mater didn't bug me at all in the first movie, but in that short trailer he completely grated on my nerves.

With any luck, we're getting an out of proportion amount of Mater footage just for the trailer, and in the movie he's more reasonably used.

Make sure you cut and paste that comment over into the Transformers 3 thread!

The newest trailer looks better, but I still have no desire to see this. I'll eventually watch it on video though.

I liked the first and the sequel looks fun, even though it seems less Cars 2 and more Mater's Tall Tales: The Movie. Good thing I actually like Mater.

Eh, I recall watching old Looney Tunes as a kid with talking cars, planes, boats, everything. The concept of Cars isn't too far-fetched, I just don't car for the basic story and its execution.


I do take some issue with the world of Cars though: it always felt a little "off". Like it's the future of the Transformers universe, or the Matrix or the Terminator films. Like the machine intelligence took over and over time began doing bringing back human cultural artifacts. The way they interact with their world doesn't feel like a natural evolution of a machine culture to me.

well...Cars didn't take over the world. They just are....there. The Transformers universe you could argue that they have souls or whatever...so that's why. The other 2 I get it to ya.

Same here. Pixar still doesn't look like its going to have much competition come Oscar time though. Kung Fu Panda 2? Cars 2 can't be that bad.
