Movie Trailers That Excited You the Most
While they are almost all cookie cutter with the whole "In a world where..." or "In a time of.." , every now and then one comes along that just hits the right chord and gets you giddy like it's supposed to do. Sometimes (okay, most of the time) the movie doesn't live up to the hype, but they made a good preview. Please elaborate, but keep it clean!
For me, the third one released for the first Lord of the Rings movie (FOTR) is a good one. Granted , it was the third one, but the other two made it look like just another attempt to revive the fantasy genre. This one really got you into the whole Middle Earth mythology and showed enough bits for fans to realize this was a serious effort and not something half-assed.
Of course the grandaddy of them all for me will probably always be the first teaser for The Phantom Menace. No need to discuss the movie, we all know how that and the subsequent outings went. However, what made it so cool to me was that for so long these movies were just rumors and possibilities. The teaser was proof that this was 100% going to happen, and it really delivered on everything one wanted to see: Saber action, space battles, and a cool looking villain with a great weapon.
The came the movie, and the subsequent teasers/trailers for the next two eps.really lacked the punch of the first.

These are old, but I remember seeing and being really excited over the trailers for 7 Beauties, Mean Streets, Apocalypse Now, American Graffiti, and Harold and Maude to name a few.

This one:
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/hF4kug0dj10?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/hF4kug0dj10?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
I saw this trailer with a packed house at a revival theater in 1979, some 30 years after the movie came out and the crowd was as psyched as if it was brand new!

Independence Day (White House blowing was something else back in 1996)
Teaser for the LOTR Trilogy (the shot of the fellowship walking past with far off release dates of "Christmas 2001, 2002, & 2003" was EPIC)
Star Trek (2009). It looked so unlike any of the other Trek movies and the choral music used was awesome.

The "Jurassic Park" trailer.
Probably the combination of the music and the idea of humans and dinosaurs together.

With the action sequences and plot silly at times, the action timing in the movie is pristine.
I watched that trailer, maybe, 50 times when I was a kid. It was at the begining of my Island of Dr. Moreau VHS. I'd get out that VHS and just watch the trailer.

Not sure if Teaser Trailers are allowed, but I always liked this one from Terminator 2.

Re: Movie Trailers That Excited You the Most
Vantage Point - One of the best trailers ever. Everyone I knew was excited by that trailer. The trailer was better than the movie itself in a way.
Deep Blue Sea - Trailer really gets you pumped even though the movie itself isn't as exciting as the trailer.
The Last Samurai - Great trailer. Gets you all excited.
Godzilla 2000 - Really exciting trailer. Had to go to the theater day 1 after that trailer.
Cloverfield - Trailer blew everyone away.
The Dark Knight - Great trailer.
X2: X-Men United - Awesome trailer. Professor X's words are very powerful on the trailer.
X-Men: The Last Stand - Great trailer and Magneto's speech isn't cut off like in the actual movie.
Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3 - All had great trailers with awesome music that got you all fired up to go see them in theaters.
Jason X - That trailer with "Let the bodies hit the floor" was so perfect to get you excited about watching a new Jason movie. Regardless if you didn't like it. We're talking trailers.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - Excellent trailer that lured everyone in. We may never have seen the movie if not for that awesome trailer that caught everyone's eyes.
I am sure there are many many more!

Inception - perfect use of the soundtrack with some exciting scenes
Jonah Hex- I love westerns, Josh Brolin, and steampunk so this trailer really got my attention. Watched it many times
Into the Wild - trailer still gives me goosebumps
City of Ember - The trailer made this film look like an amazing adventure, but it wasn't a great movie
3:10 to Yuma - watched this one so many times. Again, a huge western fan, and starved for big budget westerns. Gorgeous and exciting, the film didn't disappoint either!

Unforgiven - The trailer first showed Richard Harris, which was cool. Then Gene Hackman appears, then Morgan Freeman. When they finally showed Clint Eastwood, I was all wound up.

I remember being excited for both New Nightmare and Jason Goes to Hell when I saw those trailers as a kid.
Most recent trailer that really got me pumped for a film? Cloverfield. Trailers these days give away FAR too much information; this one did it perfectly.

Re: Movie Trailers That Excited You the Most
That's further proof that the one thing worse than having a crappy movie with a good trailer, is a good movie with a trailer that grossly misrepresents it. Regardless of quality, it will most likely get bad word of mouth.
