Has Wes gotten a best director nod? This one might get it for him. He is as good as Spielberg, Tarantino, Scorsese, Nolan or any other active great director. In his own subtle, highly intelligent way.

So of course, like all decent movies, Moonrise Kingdom isn't playing anywhere near me (and I don't exactly live out in the sticks), and yet a piece of shit like Battleship is everywhere...

That's how it usually works. Of course, I do live out in the sticks so I completely expect it.

come on man, the movie is showing at a whole 4 theaters nationally right now and only 30 between now and June 8
don't think you are going to get much sympathy that you can't find it in your major market yet

My sister is seeing this tonight, she's super excited as she seems to like all things Anderson. Her favorite is Rushmore so she was happy when James Franco reviewed Moonrise Kingdom and commented it was Wes Anderson's best movie since Rushmore.

I didn't know it was only in 4 theaters right now. I thought that with all the reviews of it from all the major sources hitting now, it would have been a little wider than that. Who's gonna remember these reviews when the movie comes to their market in a few weeks?

I hope movie distribution can be fixed in the future. Like instead of having 15 showings of The Avengers everyday, devote one screen, one day out of the week, to play an indie film.

I'm sure this will end up with a wide release. New Wes Anderson movies have excited me since The Royal Tenenbaums. And I've had to wait for all of them. So I'm used to it by now.

Wes has his audience and they will find the film
as far as everyone else, I'm sure the reviews will continue to pour in

Well, looks like it made half a million on just 4 screens, which makes it the biggest limited release of all time. But then I don't really find that surprising at all and I'm pretty sure they could've released it wide just fine - I still don't understand the mentality behind a limited release for a movie that's on a lot of people's radars.

MOONRISE KINGDOM BREAKS BOX OFFICE RECORDS
Posted by Peter Bowen | May 29, 2012
Wes Anderson's MOONRISE KINGDOM rose this weekend to set a new box office record. Pulling in an estimated 4-day weekend gross of $669,486.00 in 4 theaters (between Los Angeles and New York), MOONRISE KINGDOM broke the number for the highest recorded per-theater average for a live-action movie released domestically. The previous record was held by Dreamgirls, which opened in 2006. And prior to that the record was held by BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN. Focus CEO James Schamus commented on the record-breaking weekend: "MOONRISE KINGDOM is a story of love's improbable triumph, and for Wes Anderson and his team a labor of love from start to finish. How wonderful it is to congratulate him, on behalf of everyone at Focus, for this remarkable, record-breaking opening."

I wonder what the average ticket price is at those four theatres? I imagine movie tix in NY and LA are significantly above the national average.

You should be charged double for bringing an infant to the movies. Hire a babysitter you cheap motherfuckers.
